Perhaps, but I think liberals need to understand that Trump is a reaction their own attitude, which is:

THat's so totally disingenuous. Liberals weren't behind the exporting of jobs to cheap labor markets. And don't you find it at all weird that there's this populist movement about jobs being sent to China when the transition is basically over ?

Where were you in the 80s and 90s when this whole thing was kicking in ? Back then you heard liberals at least giving lip service to protecting these American workers more than republicans (btw Trump's lip service is so transparent - I can't believe anyone really believes he thinks he can bring back a lot of decent paying jobs).

And Obama certainly wasn't behind bringing them back. It's that genuine complacency to the middle class in the country that gave us Trump and our movement.
I don't know if you know what great is, or you need a definition of what that even means. For most it was simply an edict saying it was not Great, not even Good under Obama.
The only description for it is to say it Sucked.

Perhaps Hillary might had won if Her attitude wasn't "NAFTA the thing my Husband singed wasn't behind exporting of jobs to cheap labor markets" perhaps she would have won.
Had she said... "When I'm President I will end my Husbands disastrous NAFTA it was bad for the middle class and this country. "

Sure they were. "Free Trade" was the mantra of both sides, with a tacit liberal subtext of "Fuck the uneducated who actually make stuff, they're not as good as we are anyway. We can justify it all by calling them racist."

Nobody was thinking fuck the uneducated. And to the extent that it's slave labor in China and not simply people over there having better lives while some here get worse, I do have a problem with it. But it's not simple. I presume you enjoy your smart phone and all the other cheap goods we get from Asian workers.

It's easy to claim solidarity with workers here, but it's another to deny the benefits to the middle class.

This is complicated stuff. The world is evolving, we (the US) claimed global capitalism and free markets were the best thing for the world. I think that was true. I also believe that globalization was necessary and correct and I even believe that a world government is inevitable and necessary if mankind is going to survive. Not a totalitarian world government, but issues such as terrorism, pollution of oceans, regulation of weapons of mass destruction are eventually going to have to be regulated (and policed) at the global level. Is this not obvious ?

I don't know exactly what this is a justification for, but you're full of shit with this. It was much simpler than this. Just economics, and it was more right wingers - the owner class, INCLUDING TRUMP, exploiting cheap labor elsewhere - than it was liberals.

The intelligent folks that you and TPB refer to as "liberals" are only guilty of being reality based.

Let me try to further wrap my mind around this. Trump buys steel for his buildings from China, and has clothing lines manufactured overseas, and hires illegal immigrants to work construction and you want to blame liberals for observing the reality of this and not fighting it more, and you buy into TRump being the spokesperson for those who have lost jobs to cheap foreign labor.
