No, it was because he failed to DISCLOSE those ties and was therefore incompletely vetted before taking office. To put it simply (so even a Leftist might understand), Trump hired a guy to do a job. Are the Associates of Trump's Associates considered part of his Camp/Admin now?

If not, then the investigation of Trump Associate Flynn's Associates have nothing to do with Trump or his Administration.

Also, there must be a similar investigation into Podesta as there was for Manafort, since the former did not disclose for 5 years he had the same exact client as Manafort and received $750k to $1M in fees while he was lobbying Hillary, then Secretary of State. He also has Russia investments he put in an LLC in his daughter's name, but the Email leak revealed Podesta personally sent emails weighing in on decisions as if he still was the lead investor.

This is far stronger grounds for starting an investigation than Trump's associates had.

Finally, and Russia Conspiracy theorists dodge this one like the plague, when oh when will the DNC turn over it's server for Cyberwarfare and Counterintel analysis to Government Agencies? Don't the Democrats want a Russian Hack link conclusively established? Or maybe they know damn well there were too many hackers in their system from all over the world, pulling data from their own servers, making them look incompetent?
