Republican wanted slaves to be freed as a basis of the constitution and the rule of law, but the democrats did not want to:
Source Wikipedia: "Lee supported President Johnson's plan of Reconstruction,[citation needed] but joined with Democrats in opposing the Radical Republicans who demanded punitive measures against the South, distrusted its commitment to the abolition of slavery and, indeed, distrusted the region's loyalty to the United States.[113][114]"
Now said democrats want to pull down statues of their past brethrens. By the way, who started the KKK?
If pulling down symbols of the US's dark past is worthwhile, what will we do with those who invented racism and enslaved African Americans? This was an illegal and unprincipled mistake, have the democrats ever apologized for this?
Crickets...............!
The answer of course is to treat everyone with respect, follow the golden rule, but insist that people act reasonably and objectively.
