He just picked a fight with the NFL and has them and the Democrats basically defending the 6-figure and millionaire players' right not to stand for the anthem.

"I'm so oppressed, I just signed a multimillion dollar contract. I just have to kneel during the National Anthem."

A private in the US Army makes $1600 a month. Is he allowed to kneel when the Anthem is played without jeopardizing his career?

The difference of course, is the private has an important job, whereas an NFL Player is just an entertainer.

"Leave the oppressed guys who make 6-7 Figures alone, Orange Douche! If the NFL wants to market itself as America's Pastime while kneeling in front of the flag (which started under a Black President, BTW), nobody should criticize it!"

When one is the President, one isn't allowed to "express opinions" that contradict the Constitution.

Hmmm, Obama expressed his opinions about a Supreme Court Decision.

joeyjojojunior says

"express and opinion" that a US citizen shouldn't be allowed to exercise his right to free speech

He can certainly express his opinion that an employer cut an entertainer's contract over behavior he regards as crossing the line.

As can anybody else.

Just like Obama can express his opposition to a Supreme Court Decision, literally the most "contradicting the Constitution" thing you can do. Bar sending in the Army and declaring their opinion "Null and Void by Act of the President" of course.

Hardly. Obama's opinion was that the Supreme Court's decision was at odds with the Constitution. He didn't contradict the Constitution at all. He defended the Constitution actually.

No, as President, he really can't. As Donald Trump, private citizen, he can. As Trump Inc., he can. As leader of the US, he can't.

The final, legal arbiters of Constitutionality disagreed with Obama. Yet Obama dared exercise his free speech as President to criticize it. Unprecedented! (LOL)

Was it free speech, or not?

It was Obama stating policy. Again--not at all similar to Trump attempting to stifle a private citizen's free speech

lol--your hypocrisy is literally astounding. Anything Trump does, no matter how much you would have attacked it 2 years ago, is fine today. It's really sad

Horrible!

Going back to the NFL for a Second: Is flipping the Bird "free speech"?

Nah, if you wanna honor your father, or raise Breast Cancer Awareness, you gotta pay the NFL $$$ for that shit or be fined! "Proud?" "Brave?" Fines!!!

For honoring 9/11 (but again, not wearing the $$$ shoes)?

http://www.dailywire.com/news/9096/nfl-fines-players-wearing-patriotic-cleats-hank-berrien
The NFL sure is generous with those fines. Except standing for the national anthem, of course.
35   joeyjojojunior   2017 Sep 23, 9:14pm

Hey-you’re free to criticize the NFL and its application of fines. I have no problem with you expressing such an opinion . I may disagree but I won’t stop you from expressing such an opinion.

Rules are different for POTUS however. You should know this.

And back to Obama—he was saying he thought lawmakers should come up with a new law. Not even remotely similar to Trimps actions

I think your bias is showing. Rosa Parks is a symbol for many. Would you tolerate disrespect for Parks? Should she be dismissed as a symbol as well? The Statue of Liberty is a symbol to many. Should we dismiss it as well? You are creating little stories that fit within your own little world of narrow beliefs, which you are sure are correct. This is exactly what is wrong with the world today.

I can see why you keep trying to divert this and deflect away from Trump's blatant attempt to restrict free speech.

Free speech is obviously only worth defending when it's Milo or Alex Jones or the KKK marching. When it's a black athlete--shut up and play nice.

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours." You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms.
Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."

What it has to do with is your view that we should abolish all symbols. No, the same symbol means different things to different people. Intolerance for other viewpoints, which you exhibit, is what is wrong with the world today.

Without people willing to lay down their lives in defense of our country, we have no country. But you seem to be alleging that only those who serve in the military serve their country. Is that your narrow minded belief? A lot of people prefer to keep their contributions to themselves, and not publicly beat their chest about them.

And the President of the United States should believe in and protect the right of free speech. Don't you agree?

He does believe in it, that's why he is making use of it. DT did not demand Kaepernick getting fired (by decree or law), but voiced his opinion that he should get fired. The NFLs response is equally hypocritical as Kaepernick's quota negro bullshit. Kaepernick has as much to do with the common black man as OJ did, at least OJ didn't lie about it, only his lawyers did. The NFL has been battling criticism from the mainstream left for a while as football becomes less popular, lawsuit mount over concussions etc. So they play nice with all the SJW bullshit because they try to extract as much money as possible for as long as they can. I think though that they are legitimately waging whether they would lose more money by punishing Kaepernick vs supporting him,...

Right! Only Christian Republicans have things in common with the common black man!

Mell and Thunderlips can speak for the common black man! Not Kaepernick!! Because yous relate with them so well! Yous are THE champions of the common NEGRO!!

Currently, his tax-exempt, heavily taxpayer-subsidized employer has the right to let him go/bench him/not renew his contract.

Where was your outrage when Google fired that IT Guy?

I believe if you can be fired (in California, no less) for writing a memo expressing skepticism, you can certainly be fired for going out of your way (Kneeling) to disrespect the national anthem while on camera while employed by "America's Pasttime" and damaging the brand.

Hey, I think Entertainers and Artists are free to express themselves, but not free to demand to get patronage while they do it.

How is that disrespectful to the National Anthem?

He's not giving it the moon. He's quietly taking a knee, kinda like Trump when coming in contact with the head of ALL TERRORISM IN THE WORLD minus the kissing and continued support, but without trying to provide cover so they can continue harming Americans.

I'm Libertarian leaning. Religion is a private matter. I have spent many many nights close to MacArthur Boulevard at an ex's place, woke up to gunshots, shopped and went out there countless times. Volunteered at a soup kitchen. May not have much weight, but probably gives me more exposure than Kaepernick. There are a lot of problems there, none of which can be solved by somebody with a 114MM contract kneeling at the Anthem. There is no oppression, only misunderstanding. Black and White should come together and celebrate the US instead of listening to the divisive voices fanning the divide and conquer of the lower and middle-class.

No he is not. he is expressing his opinon in a campaign rally. NFL does not have to listen and in fact the NFL commisioner came out against him -I think.

Now if he even does any steps against NFL-that would alarm me tremendously. Because if it starts there, it can go anywhere and must be vigorously opposed.

But by twisting this into a free speech issue- WHEN THE LEFT IS DEMANDING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES NOT USE HIS FREE SPEECH RIGHTS-that scares normal people even more. if the president can't express his opinion-who can???? Yeah I know-only one who expresses leftie view and sings kumbaya of kapernick. Any opposing view has to be drowned out -hate, hate, hate.

Of all the problems facing the black community. Being randomly murdered by a racist cop is pretty low on the list statistically.

This is the hill the NFL and Democrats want to die on?
59   deepcgi   2017 Sep 24, 9:54am

To me, it feels like the players who refuse to stand are calling me, and everyone else who does stand in honor of our country, racists.

Half of the country votes to the right. An equally great number of NFL fans vote to the right. They respect and honor these black football players. Surprise! That’s where your huge paychecks comes from.

Try as you might, no one will ever see you as Rosa Parks, the real badass, when you return to the locker room to put on your Armani silk suit and drink champagne in the stretch back to the Hilton suite.

Recruit thugs, get a thug outcome. Makes perfect sense.

Loyalty to country is too abstract when you are focussed on narrow warlord tribalism, and football is if anything a re-enactment of narrow tribalism. Most of them are going to lose their money in idiot, grandiose ways and die with brain damage, which for most of them, was a narrow ledge to begin with.
