#taxes I calculated I’d end up owing a few thousand more.... mainly due to the fact I’ve been contributing $5000 for childcare FSA and the CA state tax write off is on the chopping block. It is what it is... but obviously would prefer if this thing isn’t retroactive. I would imagine if they don’t pass it soon it changes enough in the tax code that it would be complicated for Turbo Tax and such to adjust quickly.
I think the answer is that they can be made retroactive. It's up to Congress. Since some people may be getting a tax hike, it could be interesting. Sweeping changes to the code ought not be retroactive.
Some hope that if tax reform is passed in 2017, it would be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2017. But during an interview on “Varney & Co.”, Cohn said, “We’re trying to deliver great tax reform to the American public. We can’t get it retroactive to this year, we’re trying to do a tax plan that starts on January first of next year.”
Considering Trump hasn’t come out to correct his man Gary Cohn... it appears they aren’t serious about makin tax reform retroactive.
