With all the talk about the school shootings, let's take a look at what the 2nd Amendment actually says:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Couple things to note in there:

1. The specific mention of a militia being the reason for the need to bear arms.
2. The 2nd Amendment never mentions the word gun at all.

So, what exactly is the definition of "arms"?

In 1755 Dr. Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language was first published. It defined “arms” as “weapons of offence, or armour of defence.”

Weapons of offence would seem to include pretty much anything and everything, from knives to nuclear weapons. The US has already seen fit to ban some weapons of offence so the 2nd Amendment clearly has not been interpreted strictly as meaning that the US cannot ban all "arms". Therefore, the 2nd Amendment does not guarantee citizens the right to own whatever weapons they choose.

So it then becomes a question of which weapons should be banned, which should be strictly regulated, and which should be lightly regulated or not at all. Like anything else, we should weigh an individual's right with society's right. When looked at in that manner, it becomes very difficult to justify why fully automatic or semi automatic rifles should be allowed. What purpose do they serve an individual? And why would that purpose outweigh the extreme damage those weapons have cased society??

Patrick thinks the Chamber of Commerce is the worst organization, and he may be correct, but the NRA is not far behind.

presumably AR platform, to the citizens of Kyiv. They said in the news that 'Ukraine provided them' but c'mon man, they don't have shit that we didn't give them so they were our guns.

They were FULLY AUTOMATIC AK's from old Soviet stock, a family acquaintance has relatives there who got one.
On another note, Ukr interior minister said a few days ago that attitude towards civilian ownership of arms will change and every citizen should be armed. If I understood this correctly, he meant full auto rifles and RPG's.

Ask Ukraine why the right to bear semi auto or better is so important, right Joe?

In February they distributed 10,000 rifles, presumably AR platform, to the citizens of Kyiv. They said in the news that 'Ukraine provided them' but c'mon man, they don't have shit that we didn't give them so they were our guns.
As was said recently you arm your allies, you disarm your enemies. We are their enemy.

Wrong: they gave out AK-47 and AK-74 with giggle switches. Also they have a native manufacturer of AR and Tavor patterned rifles in 7.62x39, 5.45x39 and 5.56x45, so the premise of "everything is provided by us" is simply incorrect. Grand total we took way more weapons from them than we ever gave (cough, nukes, ICBMs, strategic bombers, cruise missiles, cough).

All of these are things they are trying to ban here in America, while giving them to drug cartels in Mexico and civilians in Ukraine.

Different "they". Points for creative quoting though.

As usual, America pays most of the bill, the Euros combined not even half as us, despite being most of the G7 and as a whole, wealthier than the USA.

Question to Patnetters - is there a need to stock up on additional 9mm? Will they be able to mess with it like tax, registration, ban?
709   PeopleUnited   2022 Jun 3, 7:20pm

Arms, ammo, magazines. They are coming for them all.

The USA is directly and indirectly arming civilians and soldiers in Ukraine while they work to disarm civilians in America.

Have limited space, gun safe too small already, ammo storage closet full so have to prioritize. My goal is 1000-2000 rounds of each ammo type and about three times that of 22lr.

.22LR is going to be as good as gold.

Reloading supplies.

Damnit, TEOTWAKI, wait just two years.

9mm just went up $30 per 1,000 from where I purchase. It was $349 2 days ago.

??? Is it possible now to reload rim fire cartridges? I haven't shot .22 LR in decades, and that was from a Ruger rotary magazine carbine.

I can see where my content was misleading, let me restate:

.22LR will be great as a commodity to trade.

Reloading supplies for any round/shell are great to have on hand.

The two weren't related, but .22LR is a pain in the ass to reload. It can be done, but it's a major drag:

Which makes having surplus .22LR on hand to trade a good idea.

Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected.

Thanks for the education (link did not work though)

So then:

*

A [functioning] Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

*

If mentally disturbed people are able to hit soft targets, clearly something needs to give. Do these events not "undermine the security of a free State"?

Perhaps the awnser is in front of us, and we need militias to protect our schools and other public spaces? Honestly don't know, just thinking out loud.

Or may be just enforce fucking existing laws, such as don't sell arms to persons threatening school violence, prosecute those who threaten violence so they can't buy guns, etcetera.

The assistant principal can do that. That's what they do.

You can outlaw guns but you can't stop people from getting them. That's why it is important to let good guys carry guns. If guns are outlawed only outlaws, and police, will have guns.
726   Bd6r   2022 Jun 7, 9:01am

I don't argue against arming teachers and principals, but in the whole discussion on "National level" common sense seems to be lost. In LOGIC! we ask questions like what could have been done to prevent shooting. Answer, at least in last few school shootings, is that they would have been prevented if EXISTING laws would have been enforced, and that they would have been much less deadly if heroes in BLUE! would have done their damned job. New laws will not do anything if they don't enforce (or enforce only selectively) the existing laws. The lack of logic in presstitute and politician discussions is truly infuriating.

Nothing can be done until we fix the broken balance between forcible hospitalization and civil rights, and go back to Taxpayer Mental Health facilities for the very mental.

It's one thing to ask people to pay for a weekly visit to Dr. Greenberg, something else to expect them to cover a serious schizo. And halfway homes cannot control or patrol people with severe mental illnesses. They're for people that can work in the normal world with assistance. Schizos will always get their meds adjusted, the danger of halfway homes is that one day, the mix stops working, they decide they're not taking any more of the Alien's mind control pills, and go wander off to throw aliens in front of trains (yes, Mentally ill people can and do hurt themselves and others, quite frequently actually, as anybody who lived in a big city for a year or more has probably seen).
