Everything I’ve read seems to be leaving out a large part of the story....such as why the store called the police and how the police got from arriving on scene, to arresting the men. So I don’t understand what the protests are about.

Predictions for the 2030 interpretation of current events? Personally, I foresee that there will be apologies for apologies that were made in response to apologies from some group that perceive an injustice that wasn't adequately apologized for.

I'm sorry.

Apologizing when you've done nothing wrong just invites more demands for apologies, and free stuff.

A better response would be for the executives to politely say that the store did nothing wrong. A store is not a free public restroom. The restroom maintenance in a private business is paid for by customers who buy things, and the public should respect that and buy something if they want to use the restroom. Starbucks might get a lot of public support for showing some spine instead of being spineless.

If the public wants public restrooms, that's a valid concern and could be dealt with as other public infrastructure like roads is dealt with, via taxes.

Bravo! The part that is glaringly absent from the national discussion!

I had a guy get salty with me when I didn't initially let him use my shop bathroom. He had bought a motorhome from me almost a year before, and I totally didn't recognize him when he pushed into the office one morning and greeted me with, "YAW DON'T GOT A BAFROOM!?!" After introductions, explanation, and him using the bathroom, he still complained we treated him rudely. That's the way literal bums demand to use the restroom, then proceed to fuck it all up inside. Act like one, get treated like one.

The left is fighting for the right to use the bathroom at Starbucks without purchasing anything.

And after "public use" is established, then will come the condemnation for insufficient of handicap access. After that, smack downs for not having all restrooms "gender neutral."

An employee said Starbucks company policy was to refuse the use of the restrooms to non-customers and asked the men to leave

Hey, bring back Pay Toilets, problem solved. Appeal to Millennials by allowing "pay by app" instead of just putting quarters in a slot.

Of course, if we move to Pay Toilets we will need to update the old Rhyme to:

Here I sit, broken hearted
Charged my App, but only farted
