County Kerry, Ireland (CNN)Ireland appears poised to overwhelmingly overturn a constitutional amendment that bans abortion in almost all circumstances, according to an exit poll.
The poll released by Ireland's national broadcaster RTE shortly after polling stations closed on Friday night predicted that nearly 70% voted in in favor of repealing the Eighth Amendment to Ireland's Constitution. The RTE exit poll shows 69.4% voting "yes" and 30.6% "no."
Back in the 1980's as a student I was arguing with a friend.....I claimed that religious countries were not capable of progressing due to silly religious beliefs and suppression of science. I pointed out Ireland, one of the most backward and religious countries in Western Europe. They seemed to be the Saudi Arabia of Christianity with their religious conflicts, lack of progress, and belief in everything religion. The last few years you have a complete U-Turn. They elected a gay Prime Minister who is half Indian. They started progressing at an incredibly rapid rate, and they overwhelmingly decided to bury their absurd abortion laws through a referendum, once and for all.
My point....Religion does nothing good. It brings about violence, human rights abuse, discrimination, and prevents scientific progress. The solution is simple....Education education and more education. What happened to Christianity will happen to Islam, the worst religion ever invented by barbarians. Thank You
