Basically the Democrats have admitted that they know the economy is roaring and the country is running like a well oiled V8 engine, so instead of saying “hey let’s drop the Trump Derangement and jump on board to help the country”, they’re now hoping for millions to lose their jobs, homes, and well being instead.

This is why the Democrats have lost so bigly between 2010 and now. They are a party of liberal coastal elites who don’t understand anyone outside of Hollywood or Manhattan. They don’t give a fuck about the working class.

Yes, I'd also like to know how Trump is MORE authoritarian than say Obama.

From https://www.psychologistworld.com/influence-personality/authoritarian-personality

Blind allegiance to conventional beliefs about right and wrong
Respect for submission to acknowledged authority
Belief in aggression toward those who do not subscribe to conventional thinking, or who are different
A negative view of people in general - i.e. the belief that people would all lie, cheat or steal if given the opportunity
A need for strong leadership which displays uncompromising power
A belief in simple answers and polemics - i.e. The media controls us all or The source of all our problems is the loss of morals these days.
Resistance to creative, dangerous ideas. A black and white worldview.
A tendency to project one's own feelings of inadequacy, rage and fear onto a scapegoated group
A preoccupation with violence and sex

From Trump's well known requirement of anyone who works for him to vow blind allegiance to him, to his relentless attacks on the media, to his black and white thinking, etc. etc., he is clearly an authoritarian personality. This was well known early in the primary campaign:

Got all that out of a BIll Maher rant now did you ?

Where do you see any admissions of anything ?

Let's hope the economy isn't running like a well oiled Chrysler product V-8 engine. Gotta love those Chrysler products and the fools who buy them.

Why does it have to be a V-8 engine by the way ?

Do you own a V8 engine? I'm talking about a real american high displacement V8. Nothing sounds more beautiful riding down the highway.

Here's mine.

As for your other points, did you read what Bill Maher actually said? Why would he ask for a crash if the economy wasn't humming like a well oiled beautiful V8? Why would a crash help his team (the Democrats)?

I agree, people should buy what they can afford, and what gives them value. For me, I can't drive a compact shitbox because it's not comfortable for me and I can afford better very, very easily.

Feux Follets says
That works two ways of course. Also works with our allies - not the ones in Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey etc. - our real allies.

Seeing as how I am currently residing in middle America they are not forgetting all of the broken promises that really matter - talk only goes so far.

Our allies have no say in our elections, don't give a shit what they think, especially the "allies" expecting us to foot all of their bills.

As for working class counties in middle America, they've made their opinions heard, I don't need anecdotal hearsay.

I do hope you understand the difference between an "authoritarian personality" and an actual authoritarian ruler. Lots of 2 year olds have authoritarian personalities, not so many todler authoritarian dictators.

Also, any psychologist who suggests they can diagnose Trump from the news is a professional joke.

And violating APA standards about diagnosing from afar.

In fact, labeling political opponents using psychological terms is a form of authoritarianism in and of itself.

Demanding loyalty was standard in leadership not long ago and still is.

Also our past administration was one of the most non transparent and secretive in US history with the all time record for whistle-blower prosecutions and very non communicative with the media

what your definition of Authoritarian is

An authoritarian is a leader who grabs and wields power beyond those granted to him by the democratic process and constitution.

Every POTUS of our lifetime has crossed the authoritarian line with some of their worse decisions, such as wars (Bush and Obama) AND expanding the Orwellian surveillance system (every POTUS of our lifetime but especially Bush and Obama).

Only the libertarians who want a constitutionally limited POTUS seem to care about authoritarianism. The D's and R's turn a blind eye whenever their team is leading. Obama was as authoritarian as a POTUS gets, for example. Almost no D called him out.

Personality is subjective. Trump certainly has plenty of bizarre quirks.

Authoritarian rulers do actual tangible authoritarian things. If Trump is an authoritarian, what has he done?

Noone gives AF about subjective opinions of Trumps personality.

Historically the party of POTUS always takes a few steps back after winning POTUS election. This year may be an anomaly due to massive revealed D corruption. A large part of the D base left after it was discovered they steal primaries. Today's D's similar to R's in 2006. The base no longer trusts the leadership. Either the D's will reinvent themselves or they will splinter, just like the R's over last 10 years.

Prdiction: in POTUS 2024 election the successful D candidates will openly criticize the failure of clinton and the D establishment very much like Trump criticized the failed R establishment. (Can McCain die already?)

Yeah that's another issue. Plus few container ships running on crap all year produce more pollutants than all the cars combined. But as long as you can virtue signal you're dandy.

Source? No offense, but usually when one says "I heard" what follows is BS.

I'm seeing 715 kg of CO2 for a flight from Chicago to London.

And 50,000 lbs typical household CO2 emissions.

Seems like you're off by a factor of 100 or so.

Feux Follets says
Tell all that from Nevada huh ?

Uh, no, that's an electoral map of the United States.

I said we should not buy the most expensive anything we can afford - we should buy what gives us the most value.

The virtue signaling of personal immense financial resources sounds a lot like a certain duck that used to be here.

That's what I said, I never brought up buying the "most expensive" , that's what a certain duck would do. I'm saying what you can afford (as in, you aren't taking a 30 year loan to buy it), and fits the requirements of what you need. A Corolla doesn't work for me because I hate compact cars (I spent years in Asia driving them).

No shit. Things have changed in the hearts of minds of people since 2016 as the promises made are not being kept especially the ones on good jobs

Is that a guess, personal desire, or are you basing that on any data?

Feux Follets says
Not the same. Buying what gives the best value vs what someone can afford are not the same.

Not what I was trying to say, you dishonestly cut my quote down to fit your narrative. Regardless, I don't care enough to continue the discussion. Good luck with your compact.

Not a factor of 100.

According to the World Bank, the average American generated about 16.4 metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2013; according to some calculations, a round-trip flight from New York to San Francisco emits about 0.9 metric tons of carbon dioxide per person. For an American, that represents about one-eighteenth of your carbon emissions for the year.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/27/climate/airplane-pollution-global-warming.html

"I heard" != I read somewhere, not "I'm dying on this hill".

But that being said, NYT article confirms the basic premise and the point stands.

A flight from SFBO to Rio via Panama?

Your flight:
From: San Francisco (US), SFO to: Rio de Janeiro (BR), RIO via: PFN, Panama City, FL [International Airport]A, US, Roundtrip, Economy Class, ca. 21,800 km, 4 travellers
CO2 amount: 16.4 t
https://co2.myclimate.org/en/portfolios?calculation_id=1187217

So one family trip to Rio from SFBA with a single stop halfway = entire output of an American over an entire year.

In the example given by CBOE Trader, if a liberal takes 4 international trips a year, it's equivalent to about the same CO2 emission of an average American over an entire year.

Therefore Bragging about driving a hybrid while taking multiple international or frequent transcontinental flights is just virtue signaling.
67   MisdemeanorRebel   2018 Jun 12, 3:51pm

Three Single Passenger International Trips to Asia = Entire Average American's yearly CO2 emissions:
https://co2.myclimate.org/en/portfolios?calculation_id=1187235

Four Transcontinental Flights = Half of an American's Yearly CO2 Emissions.
https://co2.myclimate.org/en/portfolios?calculation_id=1187238
So if you've got a hybrid but fly cross country several times a year, it more than cancels out. Frankly one or two trips cancels it out, and those aren't international flights.
