N.J. still tops list of states losing residents

For the fifth consecutive year, New Jersey has the dubious distinction of ranking as the No. 1 state residents have left behind, according to a new survey.

The Garden State placed first as the "most-moved-from" state in the United Van Lines 40th Annual National Movers Study, released Tuesday. In 2016, 63 percent more residents were moving out of New Jersey than people moving in, according to that survey, which tracks customers’ state-to-state migration patterns over the past year.

I actually don't consider Alaska one of the "rich" states (though the state has ample cash reserves unlike most lefty states). I own a home in Palmer and I am very knowledgeable now of the finances of the state, and am not saying things out of ignorance....

But I will say I rank states "rich" by the following criteria:

1. Cash reserves
2. GDP/Debt ratio
3. Overall Long term debt obligations (infrastructure, pensions, etc)

So using that criteria, the top 10 states in the country with the highest cash reserves, lowest GDP/debt ratio, and the lowest overall long term debt obligations are... all red states. The top 3 are Wyoming, Nebraska and Texas. Florida, Montana, and North Dakota round out the list. Missouri, Arizona, and Tennessee are also on the list. Another fact is that all of the states i just listed have better ranked infrastructure (based on long term maintenance obligations and overall "conditions") than say California which just passed a massive gas tax just to "catch up" to current obligations.

At the bottom of the list according to the above Criteria are Hawaii, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, and California. California, pretty much everyone is aware of the Democrat super-majorities over spending, and entitlement programs. The state is doomed, and Democrats doomed it. #1 in poverty, #50 in QoL, #1 in homelessness, California is basically a state for the rich, state union workers, and bums.

New Jersey is another interesting case. After the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled in 1998 that the state must finance the rebuilding of their decaying urban public schools, Trenton borrowed $8.6 billion for that purpose, including, at the urging of DEMOCRAT legislators, several billion for schools in well-off suburban districts.

The state then handed over much of that money to an agency, the School Construction Corp., which awarded no-bid contracts to firms that contributed to then-governor DEMOCRAT Jim McGreevey's political war chest, required expensive union labor on projects, and ignored standard safeguards designed to restrain costs. Building schools at nearly twice the typical cost, the authority ran out of money before completing half its work, forcing New Jersey to borrow another $3.9 billion to complete the court-ordered task. State residents will be paying it off for decades.

The New Jersey case shows how DEMOCRAT borrowing can be abused, providing a pot of money for governments to run up bills without ensuring that the funds are effectively spent. Taxpayers are the losers, ALWAYS.

Point being that the Conservative states are poor because they pay lot less importance to the education. Education is an investment and breeds startups and moves for existing companies. Not every penny spent by the state sia welfare but it can be an investment. Blindly putting every penny spent by state as waste is a very short sighted view.

CA is fairly warm and overall climate is much better than in TX, where it frankly sucks, at least near Gulf. Real estate prices are higher at least partially because of moar regulations compared to TX. People still move from CA to MS, AL, TN. I think CA D's have jacked fees/taxes/regulations to such stratospheric levels that working lower middle class is doing much better in TX with little taxes and just as few real services to population as in CA.
