Yes, there is the inherent information problem which prevents "benevolent dictators" from personally organizing the economy rationally, but there is also the problem that once you start expropriating the results of labor, laborers stop laboring. The whole society plunges into poverty simply because it's pointless to be productive when those who work the minimum get paid the same as those who work at maximum capacity.
