New York's tax revenues down billions, Cuomo's approval rating in the dumps: Could New York be ripe for a change in power?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/11/nyregion/cuomo-siena-poll-approval-rating.html

In a survey of 778 registered voters, Siena College found that Mr. Cuomo has had a precipitous eight-point drop in his favorability rating, down to 43 percent from 51 percent last month. A full 50 percent of those polled had a unfavorable opinion of Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, up seven points from last month.

And that may have been the good news: Mr. Cuomo’s job-performance rating was even worse, with just 35 percent of those surveyed saying he was doing a “excellent” or “good” job. Almost twice that — 64 percent — said Mr. Cuomo was doing a “fair” or “poor” job, another sharp rise from January.

Mr. Cuomo was not alone. Siena found that Senator Chuck Schumer’s favorability had also slipped six percentage points, to 47 percent; and 46 percent of those surveyed said they held an unfavorable view of New York’s senior senator. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who recently launched a presidential campaign, also saw her favorability slip, to 44 percent, though that is well above her unfavorability rating of 34 percent.

Cuomo, Schumer and Gillibrand are all tanking in approval ratings. High tax policies have driven away tax contributors from New York, and tax revenues dropped nearly $3 billion dollars YOY in the state leading Cuomo and Democrats in the state scrambling to figure out how to balance budgets with less and less revenue.

Seems to me like New York is ripe for the picking, a change in power. Might not be from the GOP, but could be a moderate Democrat like Manchin, or even an independent.

Taxes are paid voluntarily.
If the public feels like the taxes are unfair, a significant number of them will either cheat or otherwise decline to pay the taxes. Enforcing the tax code at any scale is impossible. There will never be enough government accountants to audit everyone or even a double digit percentage of everyone.

Because of this reality, the government spends a lot of time and money convincing tax payers that they will be in mortal danger if they cheat on or fail to pay their taxes. It especially loves to make examples of celebrities because that shit gets into the news!

This all gives bad data points for the public to base their decisions of whether or not to pay all the taxes they owe. People have a radically skewed idea of how likely they are to be audited.

My point is this: if taxes “feel unfair” to any significant number of tax payers, they’ll stop paying and revenues will drop.

That’s what’s happening in New York.

Those idiot Dem voters will start to eat zoo animals first.

Could happen. I'll take odds. Rhinos are great in stew according to most Venezuelans.

Till would be more effective in public office, he's actually talented at something.

I have an idea what happened; those who have dough are escaping New York and relocating to Florida which has zero income tax.

They especially do this when they reach retirement.

It's amazing; when I go different places I hear the accents all over; a lot of them are from New Jersey which is almost indistinguishable.

It's a little weird to see all the NY Yankees, NY Giants, paraphernalia, in addition to the Boston Red Sox and the NE Patriots stuff all over.

The wealth moving here is simply amazing; it's probably boring but if you have google earth, take it down the inland waterway and islands (Palm Beach is an island) from Jupiter to Miami; you will see a gazillion expensive houses and boats for about 70 miles, tens of thousands of rich are here.

And do they bring Liberal ideas with them? Just a matter of time until FL gets an income tax.

Tax reform suddenly exposed how high SIT in pinko states really are. And how little taxpayer get in return.

Amazon has scrapped it's plans for a New York City headquarters

. The internet and cloud services beast said Thursday it will pull out of its New York City development project after significant outcry from locals and various other parties fearing big rent hikes and epic wage inflation. Not helping Amazon’s case on what has become known as “HQ2” is an alleged $4.6 billion-plus tax incentive offered to Amazon by the state government to build the campus.

“After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens. For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term,” Amazon said in a statement.

Amazon added “While polls show that 70% of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.”

What's funny is many people from SFBA and Seattle bought real estate (some of them sight unseen) in the vicinity of the future AMZN HQ there. Yuuuuuge profit!

Democrats, dangerous to development.

De Blasio and Cuomo are such retards. Turn away 25,000 well paying jobs because they won't agree to a per head luxury tax.

This is also the reason why high tax policies are retarded. Wealth can flee at a moments notice, the world is very big.

Read CNN's version of the story. It's hilarious. They make no mention of Cuomo's statement or others criticizing ACO. They say Amazon failed lol

They should elect Ocasio. Faster route to socialism which they all seem to want.

Replace lady liberty with statue of Lenin while at it, more fitting.

A couple years ago, if someone would have told me that CNN twists the truth this much (and this often) in favor of a leftist agenda, I wouldn't have believed it. But now I see it all the time.

Yep, looks like now Amazon is going to reneg on Campaign Contributions and/or contributions to Cuomo and DiBlassio. Has them steaming mad. At least this shows AOC is the real thing, as a true Democrat Socialist would be actively against billion dollar corporate incentives and seems not worried about losing potential campaign support from Amazon.
25   Goran_K   2019 Feb 15, 11:11pm

Occasional cortex has destroyed 25,000 direct jobs in New York and at least another 25,000 in support jobs from Amazons presence in the state.

50,000 jobs destroyed by OCA and not even 1 year in.

Good job AOC.

Set up your voters for your vision of Venezuelan style Utopia.

You will have solved the New York rat epidemic. Your voters will soon gladly catch and eat them.

The Stupid is strong with this one.

Getting Amazon to pull out of New York was an AOC stated goal, AOC takes credit, not blame. She will run on a platform of not giving into Corporate interests like Amazon and the billion dollar bribes local governments provide.

I'm calling horse shit on this. Bezos wants AOC gone, and pulled off a PR live action hit piece w mastery. The real story here is how Bezos managed to go from dick pic to job creator hero in 5 days.

Also, he can put his headquarters anywhere, I dont think this decision effects him much.

If I was running a business and multiple states were fighting to get my jobs and oen state was calling me evil -which state do you think I would pick? Unless NY offered other competitive advantages -like if you are a wall street or hedge fund type firm-why would anyone want to go to that place?

I wonder what Ocasio-Clueless thinks about the thousands of dollars of taxpayer money that we give to a customer for buying a Tesla? This is cash our of our pockets.
