I imagine there is all kinds of gaslighting and obfuscation around the issue, but along the flight paths there was little possibility of unbroken cell phone calls from air to ground with tech of the time. That and the lack of airplane noise led to the implication that the cell phones were likely used when the planes were parked on the ground i.e. at some point the planes with passengers were landed and hangared. Later generation cell phones with better cell phone tower coverage could, of course, better be used to make phone calls from planes.

One analyst addressed the issue of cell phones from in flight planes pretty extensively in one of the books, but, of course, it's one of the evidences that everybody chooses to ignore.

Implication is, of course that the passengers were landed, hangared and killed in some manner, while remote control drones and rockets were used for the rest of the 9/11 job. The authorities, of course, would forge any evidence they wanted around the issue, but the cell phone calls were documented and got out there before they could be covered up. Just because something is researched does not mean all facts have been established in their findings. Research tends to be biased by those financing the research only looking for the results they want to see.
