That's kind of bizarre. In 1985, I was 14, and the look of black and white always, and still does, make me think the photograph was done on the cheap or was done a long time ago.
I have family films from 1950's that are in color - no sound though.
I would always think to myself why they would do that since color pictures look way better. I'm younger than you (I was 11 in 1985) and every time I asked why, I wouldn't be taken seriously so I never got a straight answer.
