It would be rather simple to keep some type of affirmative action for kids from poor families, but in a race- and gender-blind way. Then rich white womyn and sons of rich African chiefs would not benefit from it. However, that would end up in some poor FUCKING WHITE MALES benefiting from affirmative action, which no progressive will agree to.

College affirmative action admissions favor the well-to-do minorities. The minorities from the truly underprivileged echelons of society rarely get a leg up from affirmative action policies. Cory Booker is a shining example of this trend: both his parents (and he even had 2 parents!!!!) were IBM executives; he lived in a fancy neighborhood; he attended a francy private high school. It turns out that I was a classmate of Cory. My recollection of my days at Stanford was that the affirmative-action people were spending a whole lot more money than I ever had.

False as far as I can tell. Although true to the extent that well to do minority parents may be more likely to have academically high performing kids.

"False as far as I can tell."

Yeah, but what can you tell? I was accepted to an array of top schools. What is your experience with the top schools? I am reporting exactly what I saw. For example, the only student in my freshman dorm at Stanford that drove a new-model Mercedes was hispanic and of marginal academic achievement. For the record, I drove a used bicycle.
Sure, there were a bunch of rich white kids too. But my recollection is that the poorest kids in the dorm were all white. To say that affirmative action helps people in dire financial circumstances is utter nonsense from my experience. My dumb brother didn't get into Stanford, but I visited him in the PhD program at Harvard; exactly the same thing when I poked around over there.

Not much, just those of my students who get into top schools.

We will not get any statistics about which minorities (rich or poor) are helped most by affirmative action, likely because these statistics will show exactly what Sunnyvale said. Every time I see statistics about affirmative action (and you can not dig up much), it supports worst fears.
I write probably 100-150 recommendation letters for undergrads for med schools, scholarships, etc, consequence of teaching 350+ students a year. May be 20% are for black students, and 90+% of those are for extremely highly performing students from Africa or Caribbean (either on student visas or first generation immigrants). Most common countries of origin are Nigeria, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Jamaica. These students on average are not much different from Asians in their success. Local blacks are less than 10%, and +/-0% among top performers. I can not know how rich parents of those African kids are, but I very strongly doubt that affirmative action is meant to improve chances for continent of Africa or Caribbean islands.

I also noticed a similar thing. Blacks from Nigeria, and from the Igbo ethnic group in particular, are usually the highest performing blacks in America and Britain academically.

Funny, Obama's security in Minnesota never cost $500k. It was closer to $20k, and the city paid it.

Maybe there should be a quinoa tax to pay for it.

Marcus Meme logic:

What do you call people (and States like Ohio) that voted for a Black man twice, but then did not vote for a White woman?

Anti-Black racists.

Marcus, what do you think of a progressive draft?

We'd draft 18-21 based on parents Ed level.

You can't handle the truth.

It's because the law is selectively enforced.

If the law was actually enforced, Hillary Clinton would have been arrested the second classified material was found on an unsecured computer she owned. We don't have a justice system anymore.

That's the actual truth.

@Marcus,
they should be quickly deported - that's much cheaper. And one of the few functions of government should be border enforcement.

I heard Obama is on suicide watch, Trump is letting Assad, Putin, and Erogan have their way with Obama's carefully crafted ISIS army.

Not our problem now, those are some mother fuckers that wont be getting a palate of cash from us anytime soon.

English has a perfectly good third-person, gender-neutral pronoun, and, if someone is unsure whether he is male or female, I have no particular objection to calling him “it”.
