In the areas that Hamas entered, a lot of the residents packed up and left. A great deal of Israelis are dual-nationality, and just returned to their country of origin until the conflict ended.

If the conflict never ends, they will never return. The Palestinians have nowhere else to go. There's a possibility that Israel is going to lose territory in this conflict, although I expect that is remote. I think US servicemen will be sent into to protect Israeli settlements before that happens.

Our local Tri Valley polling station went from healthy and active local gray hairs to barroom rejects who can't even see the forms, with more numerous anonymous looking Chinese (one wonders if they can even speak English) as greeters and manning the printing presses that print the ballots and one very weird Kommisar caucasian female with glasses looking basilisk over the proceedings, the voters, and the machines.
