It all comes down to economics. If lab grown meat can be made more cheaply, it will be and what cows, sheep, goats, pigs, etc exist, will be pets. In time it will be considered as repulsive to kill an animal for a steak as it is to kill a dog or cat for meat.

We are still in our infancy of being a technological society. It was only 100 years ago when cars were "a new thing".
