The upside down cross referred to Peter, who refused to be crucified in the same way as Christ, thinking he wasn't worthy of it. If this is true, a horrific death, but crucifixion is also a horrific death.

You know how you die in a crucifixion? You become so exhausted that your head lies on your chest causing you to suffocate, which wakes you up, until you pass out from exhaustion again, as you are deprived of water - this progresses until you are so weak, you can't lift your head.

Upside down, I would guess blood rushing to the head causing your heart to give out. It's an unnatural position. Anybody that has been in this position for any length of time will tell you it leads to a headache, and I imagine over a day would be excruciating.

The upside down cross, I would judge, is a sign of absolute submission. I don't know how it became seen as a sign of Satanism.

I can guarantee no Catholic thinks of the sign of the cross in this way although I doubt many are aware of Peter's supposed crucifixion - but I am. Thank you Bibble Study! All the horrors of hell for not conforming to an impossible standard, before I was even 7.

Then why did they break the legs to make the crucified guy die sooner? I heard (in Catholic School!) that on the cross you had to push up with your legs to breathe, and the Romans broke the legs at times to speed up the death.
