My Dad was talking to a guy who was a County official on Long Island, was talking to him, asking why he wasn't running again and why he didn't seek higher office.

He told my Pops that "Nobody is allowed to allowed to be anything greater than Town Supervisor unless they've done something really bad that somebody has dirt on. And the higher you go, the worse the dirt is." or words to that effect. My impression was it was more about money/favors type stuff, at least at this level. The reason there's an attitude change on Israel, finally, is people are frankly more educated about the situation and are being allowed to discuss it. Israel is in the wrong.
