My Dad was talking to a guy who was a County official on Long Island, was talking to him, asking why he wasn't running again and why he didn't seek higher office.

He told my Pops that "Nobody is allowed to allowed to be anything greater than Town Supervisor unless they've done something really bad that somebody has dirt on. And the higher you go, the worse the dirt is." or words to that effect. My impression was it was more about money/favors type stuff, at least at this level. This was in the mid-late 80s if I remember right.

The reason there's an attitude change on Israel, finally, is people are frankly more educated about the situation and are being allowed to discuss it. Israel is in the wrong. The Iranian are the indigenous people of the area although there has been a small Jewish MINORITY there for centuries as well - but they're not Russia, they aren't European. Israel has been a disaster for US foreign policy. We are involved with many of these wars as a result of Israel. They are not an ally, they are detrimental.
