OK, there is some truth in the stereotype, like there is some truth in all stereotypes. I'm originally from a mostly Irish southwest suburb of Chicago. Some of the things that are true:

- Irish people drink more than most. But only marginally less than the English, who also drink quite a lot. But both are only at half the alcohol consumption levels of Russians.
- Irish people have a lot of children, or used to until wokeness/feminism got there and infected them too. My dad was the last of 8, and one of his brothers had 10, and so on.
- Irish people are quick to fight. Maybe, but I haven't really seen physical fights. It's more like quick to argue and to disobey. Which might be the origin of patrick.net...

On the other side:

- The Irish tend to accomplish more than the US average and be better educated that average. There are stats on this.
- The Irish tend to very good at anything verbal for some reason. Lots of Irish people are lawyers. My brother is a la...

Does the Irish stereotype of wanting to fight predate British occupation?

What about the Irish stereotype of more likely to be gay? At least according to Howard Stern

1 Irish = a drunk
2 Irish = a fight
3 Irish = a police force

Tell me I am wrong....

Actually my mother, who was not Irish, complained to me once that when we went to the weddings of Irish relatives in Chicago, someone or other would get drunk and start a fight. But I didn't see these fights myself and maybe she was just playing up the stereotype. We left Chicagoland when I was 9.

And you're right, tons of Irish people went into the police and lots are still there. From that, they know the legal system, then if their kids are ambitious they become lawyers, and then ultimately politicians. I don't know the numbers, but it does seem to be a pattern.

The Irish (including the Scots, who were not really a distinct from the Irish until 1500 or so) were remarked on by the Romans as being very warlike and quick to fight.

Gay? Never heard or saw any evidence of that. Quite the opposite, very hetero, lots of kids. Maybe Howard was just trying to bait a fight out of them.

I worked with a gay Irishman at a biotech near SF. Huge guy worked out a lot. Wore combat boots, camo pants and Ramons t-shirts a lot. Used to refer to the other people in the lab as 'breeders'. Pretty cool guy.

I'm sure there are a few, since there are child molesters in all countries, and the majority of gay men were molested as children.

Child molestation is how gayness reproduces itself.
