Anyone wants to risk a bet on the eventual number of sick people? Dead people?

I'm sure the data is correct, but I don't intend for my 15-18 year old to have left the nest. It would be interesting to see 19-29 numbers. I'll be 48-49 when my youngest should technically leave the nest. So even if something similar comes around then, I'd still be very low risk for death. 25-29 year old kids, sure, I'd be more at risk being 55-60.

Do Italians have kids later in life or something? Does grandpa and granny stay with the kids as they slowly die for support on their end and to help with grandkids? I have never been, so I have a jaded and inaccurate view of Europe. For some reason I feel like there's a stereotype where the young either live with or visit the old a lot.

I've been to Italy but only as a tourist, so my first-hand knowledge of their typical living situation is pretty much non-existent.

There is now a 'Now' and 'Yesterday' button to compare for the US - very useful.

Trump's press conference was FINALLY where he needed to go today. Fucking A finally.

True fatality percentage keeps falling as more information comes in:

https://www.sciencenews.org/article/coronavirus-outbreak-diamond-princess-cruise-ship-death-rate

Enter the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Quarantined at sea off Japan after a passenger tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the ship became a natural data lab where nearly everyone was tested and few cases of infection were missed.

Infections and deaths onboard suggest that the disease’s true fatality ratio in China is about 0.5 percent, though that number may vary from place to place, researchers report March 9 in a paper posted at MedRxiv.org.

That 0.5 percent is far less than the 3.4 percent of confirmed cases that end in death cited by the World Health Organization, but troubling nonetheless.

Demographics have to be accounted for as well on the cruise ship. Don't want to see my mom die, but the solution is just not seeing anyone above 60 and everyone stays clean. It's not that complicated. Glad Trump finally hinted that this cannot go on for months.

Have a trip planned to Mexico for the first week of June. My mom was going to watch my kids. Change of plans, we'll have to deal with it and figure something else out. It's not like this won't affect younger people regardless of everyone going back to work. Grandpa and granny were very big parts in many peoples lives as far as child care. They're gonna have to be out for a while.

A retired or disabled 60+ something person really should have ZERO expectation that the world will stop for them. Especially in cases where it was self induced (smoking, diabetes, etc).

Yeah, but the President and his friends, half of congress, and a majority of billionaires are 60+

They are already isolated from the common folks as it is. It's not like there is a chance you'll have an opportunity to sneeze on Nancy the Lizard during your morning BART commute, is there?

So? Adjust rules and make emergency (and temporary) ways for congress to continue working. It's not difficult with technology. You could verify congressional votes with biometrics the government likely already has. It's not complicated. You can open a fucking phone with your face as early as 2018....

I also don't care about billionaires. They die, the money goes to someone that will spend it. Who the fuck cares? Death is bad, but as the previous comment says, they're very likely isolated in multi-million dollar homes in gated communities. They're the least at risk by a long shot. And again, who cares.

Even when the POTUS makes the right decision or has a good idea, you will find a fault with it. Get over it. He's the President and you lost. 3.5 fucking years of this and you'll politicize a fucking pandemic? Low class shit right there.

Wtf ? You think this was an argument ?

It was meant more as an (half joking) explanation. A cynical or satirical comment. But also maybe something for you to work in to one of your obsessions Patrick. You shouldn't even be reacting to this comment. So STFU.

And by the way, I more of less complemented Trump as much as I can in a comment to TPB today.

Do you? Where did I say it was an argument? Even when you "kind of" agree, there's a caveat to it 98% of the time. Sometimes a simple yes or no is easy enough. Not a yes, but..... response. That's your typical agreement or complement during the rare time it happens.

You don't like Trump, but you personally know he's handling this well enough. You know it's not Trump's job to run all the hospitals in the country. You wouldn't want that. At some point hospital leaders and state leaders need to up their game and stop pushing their failures up the chain. Get something done. By all metrics the Federal government is doing what it should

I haven't left the house in 8 fucking days. Doing my part because a bunch of older pieces of shit can't follow directions and have a death wish. Let them die. We need to move on from this bull shit. Anything Trump does you're at minimum 50% going to dislike it up to 100% (most of the time). Just don't comment on these threads anymore if you're just going to spew one sided BS that is all emotional and feelings. That is pointless with this topic.

I don't understand shutting down the country for fat fuck, diabetic, smokers that are old and likely at deaths door anyway. Good riddance people are retarded.

Agreed. One reason for the draconian measures is that the people in power, usually pretty old people, are trying to protect themselves above all else.

Check out #ReopenAmerica hashtag on Twitter. Bluechecks and Bernie bros are acting like reopening Sam's Diner and Bill's Bar and Midstate Office Supply is tantamount to murder.

Dr. Gai Peleg told Israeli television that in northern Italy, the orders are not to allow those over 60 access to respiratory machines.

If we don't reopen America, we may as well elect Bernie. We're gonna have to nationalize everything, and the State governors ain't gonna remove their restrictions.

Note that these decisions are made every day in countries like the UK - if you are too old you don't get a new kidney and eventually die in dialysis.

Whatever happened to the guy promoting "hug a Chinese" in Italy?

Really it wouldn't have escalated like this if they just had canceled large gatherings immediately instead of being such woke imbeciles. The we may not have needed radical shelter in place orders.

I may have missed if other orgs did the same, but the NBA was actually pretty front line on this. Cancelling the regular season and all that. That's when I started kind of taking this more seriously. At least as much as I can considering I'm statistically more likely to die from many other things before CV-19. When billionaires shut down their ATM, you take notice.
