Anyone wants to risk a bet on the eventual number of sick people? Dead people?

A scientist from Johns Hopkins already did three months ago, finding that such a disease could cause 65 million deaths worldwide.

Wuhan is about 11 million, so I would expect about 33,000 deaths. If it were to go Global, with full exposure, possibly 230 million. But containment is already underway, so this is highly unlikely. Perhaps another 1000 globally.

Not close to a culling. Humanity survives and thrives.

I see a trend - every 2 years or so we have a pandemic which will kill all hupersonity. Ebola, swine flu, bird flu, now this coronavirus. A cynic in me says that media needs a crisis so that people would actually tune in, so journalists are running around screaming "we will all gonna die tomorrow". Just look at newscasters when hurricane hits, they all have on-air orgasms. Additionally, pharma industry also benefits form these scares.

So China is closing down all Lunar New Year festivals just for fun? That’s like calling off Christmas for us.
They are sending in the army to try to contain the virus, but hospitals are turning people away rather than testing them, and Chinese scared of their own government are using fever reducing meds to escape temperature checks.
Meanwhile, it killed a little girl in Los Angeles.

Time to pack your house with medicines, stock up on antibiotics and anti virals! Plant yams!
And put a few metal spikes on your front bumper!

It seems to grow exponentially, ignoring containment efforts. So I think it will be a big one.
Even 2% deaths could climb up in millions easily.
But then again millions of people do die of the flu, and no one is scared.

Who wants to bet that those who had the flu virus didn't get this strain included in the vaccine.

Don't expect the media to point this out in the Fall.

Unfortunately China is not a credible source of information but what we do know suggests they are scared. We just put our trip to Taiwan off until further notice

They already had a few cases in the US and could study them - the virus is anywhere from mild to severe but not deadly unless immunocompromised. It's not a pandemic. Still these type of coronoavirus lung infections are nasty and you don't want to catch it.

The real question is, how long we hold the evolution with pharma.

Almost 1,000 cases and more than 40 deaths

1st patient that was seemingly healthy before died but all others were 60 or older or had pre-existing conditions. Europe and the US are pretty good at Quarantines and it surely is less infectious than Ebola. Theoretically they should be able to contain it by requiring people not to have close contact with others and maintaining good hygiene (wash hands etc.). It's just too crowded over there in many provinces. Hope they get it under control in China.
