Are there really dogs, snakes, rats and bats for sale at the Wuhan market where coronavirus originated?

As the coronavirus epidemic continues to rage across China, people have been sharing a video on social media that they claim shows a wide variety of animals – including dogs, rats and bats – being sold for meat at the market in Wuhan, believed to be the birthplace of the virus. Our team analysed this video and discovered it was actually filmed thousands of miles away from Wuhan.

The video, which is 4 minutes and 30 seconds long, was filmed by someone walking through an outdoor market where dog, bat, snake and rat meat are all for sale. The video was widely shared on social media, especially YouTube, with people claiming that it was filmed in the market in Wuhan that is thought to be where coronavirus was first transmitted to humans.

The video below has garnered more than 30,000 views.

Also, right at the start of the video, the words ‘"Pasar EXTREAM Langowan" appear on the screen. We typed these words into an online search engine and ran a search for videos. Almost immediately, we pulled up a version of this same video posted on July 19, 2019, but with much better quality footage. The July 2019 posting says in the caption that it was filmed in Langowan, an area in Indonesia's North Sulawesi province.

In short, these videos weren’t filmed in Wuhan or, indeed, anywhere else in China. Instead, they were filmed 3,400 kilometres away in Indonesia.

However, there is a bioresearch lab in Wuhan, and that is probably where the Chinese coronavirus originated from.

QUOTE:
"That’s right. China’s only Level 4 microbiology lab that is equipped to handle deadly coronaviruses, called the National Biosafety Laboratory, is part of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

"What’s more, the People’s Liberation Army’s top expert in biological warfare, a Maj. Gen. Chen Wei, was dispatched to Wuhan at the end of January to help with the effort to contain the outbreak.

"According to the PLA Daily, Chen has been researching coronaviruses since the SARS outbreak of 2003, as well as Ebola and anthrax. This would not be her first trip to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, either, since it is one of only two bioweapons research labs in all of China."

So it is a Chinese bio-weapon and not bad eating habits?

Smells like a coverup, yes.

There's a PS-4 level lab in Wuhan, which since 2015 (when it opened) has been researching bat-derived coronaviruses. There's also a Center for Disease Control. Also a "wet market" -- a.k.a., selling and dispatching of animals, wild and dog included.

The existence of one does not obviate the others. Though I think the likelihood of negligence at the PS-4 lab is high. Perhaps diseased lab animals resold at the wet market (who knows at this point).

People gotta eat. If it originated in the US, would you want India demanding we stop selling and consuming Beef?

The problem of the wet markets is the off-the-charts animal cruelty. Boiling live bats, chopping live snakes, blowtorching dogs, and the list goes on. Because meat tastes better if it has stress hormones from a painful death. Go figure...

The best conspiracy theory from the NY Post article:
And then there is this little-known fact: Some Chinese researchers are in the habit of selling their laboratory animals to street vendors after they have finished experimenting on them.
You heard me right.
Instead of properly disposing of infected animals by cremation, as the law requires, they sell them on the side to make a little extra cash. Or, in some cases, a lot of extra cash. One Beijing researcher, now in jail, made a million dollars selling his monkeys and rats on the live animal market, where they eventually wound up in someone’s stomach.

It could be that the pathogen was released in the Wuhan fish market on purpose or possibly certain protocols weren't followed and the virus escaped accidentally.

We can barely trust our own media and you certainly can't trust the Chinese media or the figures coming out of China, since they are taking a big hit economically and have every reason to hide the facts.

In India the cow is sacred. Most Indians don't eat the cow. "20 out of 28 states in India currently have various laws regulating act of slaughtered cow, prohibiting the slaughter or sale of cows."

It's all about the adrenaline. If the adrenaline levels are high because the animal senses danger at the moment of death, and that adrenaline gives the human carnivore a rush too, followed by a real sleepy feeling.

Puzzling. When hunting deer you try not to spook the animal, lest the adrenaline release and make the meat tough. Shooting a walking unsuspecting deer is the goal to get the best meat. That and the immediate removal of the musk glands.
