Re-reading Grant's American Nomad. Nigger comes from the word niggur, a term coined by Appalachian Scotch-Irish. It roughly means a bad-ass, rough neck, scoundrel. Ethnicity doesn't matter for shit in the application, never did until the early 20th century. Redneck original meaning was someone who was fervent about a particular religion. Forget the real meaning of cracker, but also not an ethnic slur. So the racists, are the people who insist those words only apply to certain ethnic groups.

Agree. I have no issue using nigger in conversation with friends I know, black, brown or white. Fact is it's just a word. If you take offense grow up. What I don't understand is what is the monetary motive of pushing "the message"?

It's possible that all this is to get people to go online more, and drop film and television. Television is not watched by the young. It's possible they are purposely killing television and film to herd everybody onto an online system where everything you see and do on it, is trivially monitored.
