Is it real? I don't live there anymore but I've received mixed reports from people I know who still live there.

I know I should update my pic, a long time ago it was my dog, then it became the California state flag because I loved California. I still do in fact, it's just in a very sick state, and I think it's pretty critical right now, it might not make it back, which is sad, but I do hope for the best. I'm pretty moderate in my politics by all metrics, which makes me literally Hitler to most cali liberals. I'll update it though, maybe the great seal/flag of Jefferson?

I feel the same way about NY, except I won't go back to NY.

Had to be some strong aversion therapy to make Ben Shapiro leave, but he is sadly correct. I like they way he says that people who can't move are trapped and he feels sorry for them.

Looks like the Asian Exclusion Act of 2020 is not polling well...
Yet despite high-profile support from Gov. Gavin Newsom, the Golden State Warriors, the San Francisco Giants, just 31% of likely voters say they approve of Proposition 16, while 47% oppose it and 22% say they are undecided.

It’s more accurate if it showed homelessness, fires and gays. Roughly the 3 things CA has.

Got keys, hour after moving in neighbors came by and brought us cookies and helped me unload small trailer with piano. So many things are different. Freeway speed limit is 80! Way less nanny laws. Kids can start driving at 14.5yo.

Rogan, Shapiro, et al say the quality of life and politics has ruined California; I also complain about the homeless and crazy politics where I live, but the bottom line is taxes. They and I want to avoid them.

California is like a beautiful girl you dated at great expense; eventually you either decide you don’t like the expense or she picks a richer guy.

Either way, you have your memories and your money when it’s over.

Just the idea of paying taxes to support people who hate me is an anathema.

I was thinking it was like dating a lovely and thoughtful woman who over time went the "fat and tat" route while demanding more of your money.

Strange, Panet talked about this stuff at length years ago when Turtledove was still with us. The festering urban boils, combined with governmental malfeasances, corruption, and rank idiocy, were bound to burst some day. The Democratic and Deep (Shallow) State seditions, criminal enablements and riots/terrorist seedings with Covid Blue Pill Vehicle just accelerated the process.

from the Legislator's official website
https://a18.asmdc.org/press-releases/20200813-bonta-leads-push-greater-equity-tax-structure-through-first-nation-wealth

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) and more than a dozen fellow lawmakers have introduced legislation that would establish a first-in-the-nation net worth tax. This proposed wealth tax would generate an estimated $7.5 billion per year for California’s vital needs like education, housing, health care, and other state services.

The California Wealth Tax (AB 2088 as amended) would apply a 0.4% tax on the portion of a taxpayer's net worth that exceeds $30 million. (approximately 30,400 people.)

The California Wealth Tax would add critically needed revenue for Californiashoring up California public employee pension funds by creating a more equitable tax structure,” said Bonta. “Families are hurting right now. COVID-19 has only made matters worse. In times of crisis, all Californians must step up and contribute their fair share."
91   clambo   2020 Sep 20, 10:55am

My “fair share” is zero, that’s why I am moving away from California.
92   RC2006   2020 Sep 20, 11:33am

Haha just got my CA car registration forwarded, fuck you CA you I'm walking into dmv here and getting new plates this week, oh and ya the wait in dmv here is like 15min. Think my reg here is 150% less.
93   RC2006   2020 Sep 20, 11:39am

Come to think about it CA loosing about 30-40k in taxes from wife and I. How many tax contributors leave before they fail?
94   B.A.C.A.H.   2020 Sep 20, 11:53am

The proposed "Wealth Tax" on folks with > $30 million in assets will result in reduced tax collections. Those are the most mobile people. They will leave. Then, not only will they not collect the wealth tax, but they will also lose the already-high-other-taxes they were collecting from those folks. It will be a Death Spiral. Sheesh.
95   B.A.C.A.H.   2020 Sep 20, 11:55am

On a related topic, there has been a Conspiracy of Silence from Sacramento, and local governments, on tax collections to date. Meanwhile they have kept right on spending as if it were still good times.

They holding out to see who wins. If Biden wins they get bailed out. If Trump wins they blame the budget monster that they created on Trump and the virus.

Exactly what already happened in NJ.

In the Dem get full power, look for more of this "California Wealth Tax (AB 2088 as amended)." Only with a twist. We could have a national wealth tax collected from the high earners, but then remitted to the states according to population density or "need." That way the rich guy pays the tax and states like California benefit even if the rich guy moves.

They’ll amend 30 mil to 250k, then to 100k and soon everyone will be paying wealth tax.

Yep, we all know how the income tax was originally only to be applied to the Rockefellers, Carnegies, and Morgans level wealth.

What is richly ironic is I have a tiny business with California government clients and I raised my fee, while a guy does the work now and I will skim a little bit of dough while living out of state.

I’m going to get a few bucks back from California, although it will take a few years to get it all back.

104   epitaph   2020 Sep 21, 4:43pm

It's a dumb kids joke. The gesture is known as a dab. It's used to signify greatness or domination over others. It started as a coughing into elbow gesture from smoking concentrated marijuana and just took off. It's been around for 5 or 6 years now and seen as childish banter.
105   Patrick   2020 Sep 21, 6:49pm

But Trump wasn't actually making that motion deliberately, was he?
107   NuttBoxer   2020 Oct 7, 12:25pm

My brother-in-law moved down to Tijuana in the past year. Couldn't afford his apartment in Chula Vista anymore. My boss used to live in Bay area, currently resides in Minnesota. Also have a couple other co-workers residing out of state during Covid.

Probably already mentioned, but official stats put this as the first year California lost more than gained. They only kept up past years due to illegals and in-state births.

Make California Mexico again!

Not actually advocating that, but it is happening right before our eyes.

I still say Trump should shake up this election even more and announce a plan to "acquire" Baja California from Mexico.

Sure people are leaving. But plenty are coming

Huh?
112   Ceffer   2020 Oct 7, 3:18pm

I think there at least 10 million more people in this state than they claim, and yeah, more are coming. Problem is, they aren't necessarily the population you want.

This place is so effing crowded to the point of just getting around is a time consuming struggle. Covid helped in that regard, but traffic is picking up again. And I don't live in the most crowded parts.
