Yikes! To pay that $20k/yr implies a high income, which also means a high income tax bill.

Yes, by default you'd have to have a decent income to qualify for a $600-700k home loan in almost any area with a decent down payment. Doesn't mean you should take it up the ass in property taxes though. For a property of that value, most states are at minimum 20% lower and most are half that. A high income isn't a right for the government to take your money.

The Daily Wire, the conservative media company started by Ben Shapiro, Jeremy Boreing and Caleb Robinson, plans to move its headquarters from Los Angeles to Nashville.

What about the folks who borrowed and paid off a lower amount, years ago, and are living on a low retirement income? They are screwed.

This scenario and a property boom in the mid-1970's that led to punishingly high assessments and taxes for younger tax donkeys were the impetus for Proposition 13 in California.

It was a flawed law as it also applied to commercial property. There's been efforts to reform it.

Today was a blessed moment of respite from the smoke. In the morning, clear with sweet Pacific breezes, temperature 70. It was the way the boosters would have you think it is every day. I took advantage of the clearing window and took a 4.5 mile hike up the hills amidst the mansions and nature. I have been hacking lung shit every day.

Smoke is back a little bit this evening. It'll probably be some version of smoke tomorrow. It looked like a low pressure drew in some clear ocean air, but the smoke maps show that it is an island and that everywhere else is still choking.

They still get to tax it. You pay both states in the year you move. Or in some cases, if you move in the first half vs the second half.

Hmm... this is actually a concern I have, given my desire to flee California. It was my understanding that money specifically "earned" in a given state is taxed in that sate only. For example, if you take a 3-month contract job out of state and move to that state for 3 months to do the work, you would only pay state income tax in that state.

In the Dem get full power, look for more of this "California Wealth Tax (AB 2088 as amended)." Only with a twist. We could have a national wealth tax collected from the high earners, but then remitted to the states according to population density or "need." That way the rich guy pays the tax and states like California benefit even if the rich guy moves.

What is richly ironic is I have a tiny business with California government clients and I raised my fee, while a guy does the work now and I will skim a little bit of dough while living out of state.
