I have a question - why do you ask questions that you can simply look up?

Yes, he was a real mayor, but I seriously doubt the pin is real.

Talk about being memory holed.

His wife was Minnie Baals. LOL
I bet they were a riot.

Fort Wayne newscaster Bob Chase, of WOWO-AM, relates a story that he once pronounced the mayor's name "Bales." Mayor Baals personally called him following the broadcast to correct his pronunciation, saying, "son, this is your Mayor. I pronounce my name 'Balls'.

In 2011 Fort Wayne city officials invited people to suggest names for a new government building. The winner was "Harry Baals Government Center",
it was named "Citizens Square."

Baals's descendants have taken to pronouncing their name "Bales."

It's a shame with legacy name like that, I would corner the Kiwi Fruit market.

This is the one time where something too good to be true really is true.

Baals's descendants have taken to pronouncing their name so that it became a homophone of "Bales"

And once you have stopped giggling:
A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same (to varying extent) as another word but differs in meaning.

Before my time. But yes I’ve heard of him.

On the bright side, his parents could have named him Blue.
