How can you feign anger over others’ attacks on a free press when you imprison Assange as punishment for his vital revelations about U.S. officials?

Continuing his world tour doling out righteous lectures to the world, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday proclaimed — in a sermon you have to hear to believe — that few things are more sacred in a democracy than “independent journalism.” ...

That the Biden administration is such a stalwart believer in the sanctity of independent journalism and is devoted to defending it wherever it is threatened would come as a great surprise to many, many people. Among them would be Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks and the person responsible for breaking more major stories about the actions of top U.S. officials than virtually all U.S. journalists employed in the corporate press combined.

Currently, Assange is sitting in a cell in the British high-security Belmarsh prison because the Biden administration is not only trying to extradite him to stand trial on espionage charges for having published documents embarrassing to the U.S. Government and the Democratic Party but also has appealed a British judge's January ruling rejecting that extradition request. The Biden administration is doing all of this, noted The New York Times, despite the fact that “human rights and civil liberties groups had asked the [administration] to abandon the effort to prosecute Mr. Assange, arguing that the case . . . could establish a precedent posing a grave threat to press freedoms” — press freedoms, exactly the value which Blinken just righteously spent the week celebrating and vowing to uphold. ...

It is hardly new for the U.S. to dole out lectures which the rest of the world recognizes as complete farces. In 2015, then-President Obama was prancing around India giving lectures on the importance of human rights, only to cut short his trip to fly to Saudi Arabia, where he met numerous top officials of the U.S. Government to pay homage to Saudi King Abdullah, their long-time close and highly repressive ally whose totalitarian regime Obama did so much to fortify.

This is one of Trump's failings as well. He should have pardoned both Assange and Snowden.

Nah, let that FSB/KGB asset rot.

WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange declined to publish thousands of Russian government documents in 2016, according to a report Thursday.

The organization, which brands itself specializing in "censored or otherwise restricted official materials involving war, spying and corruption," declined Russian government data that would have amounted to thousands of pages.
...

WikiLeaks has been lauded for publishing troves of U.S. government information, ranging from diplomatic cables to apparent CIA cyber-weapons.

...

"They do not care about the causes of the people they claim to represent," he (Pompeo) said. "If they did, they would focus instead on autocratic regimes in this world that actually suppress free speech and dissent. Instead, they choose to exploit the legitimate secrets of democratic governments, which has — so far — proven to be a much safer approach than provoking a tyrant."

The shtick of independent truth-seeker isn't fooling anybody anymore. Except maybe the shoe-size IQ cohort/McGregor acolites, but these can't be helped.

Oh bullshit. He worked for the NY Times for a long time until he quit because they wouldn't allow him to report honestly on the Iraq War. He's an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Christian Church.

Give me a list of "every Establishment and Wealth-funded Leftoid Newpaper and Foundation in the USA"? I hate exaggeration.

Hedges is kind of a moron in terms of economics, but he's not moral scum at least. He's kind of like Jimmy Dore, in that he's kind of stupid about certain things, but he's not a fucking monster. He's no Rachael Maddow or Cenk Uygur. He just doesn't understand economics, he's as childish about economics as Noam Chomsky is. It's a disease of the educated.

You're such a dishonest person.

Assange is an Australian, and I knew about him in the 1990's. He did what I didn't have the balls to do. I remember thinking that although what he was doing was TECHNICALLY legal, he'd be fucked in time, and I was right.

Russia's government isn't a tenth as corrupt as ours is, even China isn't.

If you have Russian documents that need to be published why don't you have the NYT, WaPo, NPR, CNN, NBC, BBC etc to publish such Globalist propaganda? You expect Assange to publish this nonsense? No answer!

And who are you to dictate to Julian Assange what to publish? Or is it because you didn't like what he published about Iraq? The murder of unarmed civilians?

He exposed a murder... was that wrong?

Of the PCUSA, a far left Liberal Church that ordains Female Pastors in direct violation of the NT, celebrates homosexuality which the Bible says repeatedly is an abomination, embraces "Higher Criticism" aka Everything we don't like is optional and just be vaguely nice according to Post Modern Standards. The "Pastor" Hedges also supports Abortion.

He's nothing like Jimmy Dore.

He's a self admitted socialist anarchist. He's a moron and childish regarding just about everything. He wrote a book saying that the Christian Right was the biggest threat to America ( American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America ISBN 0-7432-8443-7), and fellatiates immigrants, open borders, etc.

Here's a few to get you started:
"We were warned for decades about the death march we are on because of global warming. And yet, the global ruling class continues to frog-march us towards extinction." https://scheerpost.com/2022/07/26/chris-hedges-the-dawn-of-the-apocalypse/

He's also a Zero Population Growth nutcase, believes in just about every single Global Warming/Climate Change Bullshit story, and you can verify this yourself by browsing through his articles.
"We Are Breeding Ourselves to Extinction
All efforts to save the planet will be useless if we do not cut population growth. By 2050, the planet will have between 8 billion and 10 billion people, according to a recent U.N. forecast. And yet studies, books and documentaries that deal with various crises fail to discuss the danger of all those billions of hungry people looking for a better life."
https://www.truthdig.com/articles/we-are-breeding-ourselves-to-extinction/

"Chris Hedges interviews writers, intellectuals, and dissidents, many banished from the mainstream, in his half-hour show, The Chris Hedges Report. He gives voice to those, from Cornel West and Noam Chomsky to the leaders of groups such as Extinction Rebellion, who are on the front lines of the struggle against militarism, corporate capitalism, white supremacy, the looming ecocide, as well as the battle to wrest back our democracy from the clutches of the ruling global oligarchy."
https://therealnews.com/the-chris-hedges-report-splinterlands-climate-dystopia

Patriarchy and Muh Soggy Knee! Get men out of Leadership!
"In this installment of The Chris Hedges Report, Chris speaks with V about how the expected overturning of Roe and the attacks on LGBTQ+ rights are part of a global, reactionary, theocratic war for patriarchal domination. V (formerly known as Eve Ensler) is a Tony-award winning playwright, author, and activist. Her new book is The Apology."
https://therealnews.com/the-chris-hedges-report-disaster-patriarchy

And of course, he thinks Trump and MAGA are F-fuh-fuh-FASCIST!"
"The U.S. has its own version of fascism embodied in a Republican party that coalesces in cult-like fashion around Donald Trump, embraces the magical thinking, misogyny, homophobia and white supremacy of the Christian Right and actively subverts the election process."https://www.commondreams.org/views/2022/09/26/we-have-seen-movie-fascists-have-arrived

TL;DR: Chris Hedges is just a broad spectrum left-wing whacko. If it's against the West, it must be Best.

Just because somebody is "Banished from the Mainstream" doesn't make them good people.

That was published in 2007. George W. Bush IS a fascist, is Dick Cheney, and John McCain, etc. Neocons ARE fascists, now they are fully integrated with the Democratic party. It was the Neocons that passed the Patriot Act. ALL of our electronic communication is monitored because of the Patriot Act.

Yes, he's a CHILD still.

Look, I was born in 1971, I remember when the Global Warming hysteria began, about 1985. Being inclined to like science, and understanding the scientific method, I believed that the predictions that were being made would etiher have to be accurate, OR destroy those making those claims. I fully expected the world to change by the time I was 30, well when I got to 35, and nothing had changed, I paused. 5 years later, I realized I had been duped. When I was 40, I realized it was all bullshit.

NOW: What surprised me, is that other people haven't realized they were duped.

This is a major scandal. They continue to make the same end of the world predictions, and have a record of awfu ones. No more snow in the UK, the arctic will be ice free during summer, ocean levels will rise, glaciers will disappear, we'll have the hockey stick in warming, blah blah blah. They weren't a LITTLE wrong, they were a LOT wrong.

It's stunning to me that people still believe it, but I know why they did. "Climate scientists" have proven themselves to be full of crap to my satisfaction. I just didn't think people would do this when I was 15 because if they were lying, they would be caught. Well, they are caught, and they still continue to lie. THAT'S astounding to me.

AmericanKulak says

I don't want to defend Hedges TOO much because he's an idiot, but he's not a fucking self aware propagandist liar. He believes what he says. He's WRONG about much what he says, but at least he believes it. Rachael Maddow doesn't, Sean Hannity doesn't, Anderson Cooper doesn't - NOBODY in corporate media does. These people are just ignorant people making mistakes, they are active propagandists that KNOW they are lying.

When I compared Hedges to Jimmy Dore, what I meant by that is I can see Dore SLOWLY learning, but he's certainly learning. He has the same opinion of George W. Bush and Barack Obama that I do. I had my opinion of Obama set within 2 years of him being in office, he didn't stop the wars, so I knew he wouldn't by then. Dore held out hope, but now he states that Obama "took 2 wars, and expanded it to 5" - and he's right. Dore even has GRUDGING respect for Trump, because Trump didn't start a new war.

Dore is slow, but he IS learning. Hedges, is even slower but he's not malicious. I disagree with Hedges but as far as "news" people go, he's one of the BETTER ones, because he's not complete garbage.

Here, let me give you some GOOD people: Jimmy Dore, Glenn Greenwald, Richie Allen, Ryan Dawson, The Last American Vagabond (Ryan Cristian?), James Corbett - and that's in NO particular order and I don't everything they say. They ARE wrong about somethings, but they don't lie. They make mistakes but they are right more often than they are wrong.

I find Hedges to be, juvenile in his thinking. Innocent.

Being banished from "mainstream" doesn't make you a good person, but if you're embraced by it, you're NOT a good person, period.

And BTW - Chomsky is a bad person. He's controlled opposition. He's right about what he says about Israel, but he just exists to provide an outlet toward frustration on that issue. I don't trust Chomsky and some of his ideas about economics is beyond childish, it's downright stupid.

You make some good points, then you shoot yourself in the foot with obvious emotion based comments like this. I would guess Wikileaks receives a lot of stuff they don't publish. If you put out everything, even the garbage, that becomes a good way promote censorship, diluting the quality so no one pays attention to the good stuff.

America MIC killing journalists, high quality. Democrats abusing children, high quality. Did you ever consider that the Russian docs may not have been high quality?

Do you know the roots of Wikileaks, Assange's past? The Mad Cow hacker collective? Again, I think your extremist viewpoints on Russia have prevented discourse, and provided rants.

But fuck all that, dude could have cut a deal and sold out his sources. Instead he's being tortured to death in Belmarsh. And before you say it's not torture, spend some time in solitary.

Your view is shared by Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden, as well as the directors of every three letter agency. A group of sociopaths and dictators. It's a fucked viewpoint, and Putin would love it.

RWSGFY isn't making an emotional statement, this is calculated.

Every group is infiltrated. It doesn't matter if they are paid propagandists or useful idiots. RWSGFY has consistently shown his willingness to distort information and to lie through omission though. This is an indication of either an extreme lack of ethics, or he's a professional propagandist. Do not waste your time or thoughts trying to figure out which. It could simply be a simple AI script.

You can identify them in that they will talk, but they won't listen, they won't engage.

Tucker Carlson told Roseanne Barr that former CIA Director Mike Pompeo tried to have Wikileaks founder Julian Assange murdered.

“They are torturing him to death in front of all of us...Mike Pompeo tried to have him murdered and that’s a criminal act. He's not even charged with a crime in the United States…He tried to have Julian Assange murdered, poisoned in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and that’s a fact.”

So why would the Pompeo and the CIA want Assange dead?

Epstein met with Joe Biden’s current CIA Chief, William Burns, after his child sex crime conviction. Also, when Epstein was serving his first jail sentence, which started in 2006, he sent his bodyguard to CIA headquarters for an alleged special training course. The bodyguard was given a book with a message to be delivered to Epstein, according to Bradley Edwards’ book Relentless Pursuit. Edwards is an attorney who has represented dozens of Epstein victims.

Furthermore, Assange released the Podesta E-mails exposing Pizzagate.

Jeffrey Epstein is Pizzagate!

Journalist/Documentarian John Pilger Dies at 84

From the start, Pilger was a dedicated supporter of Julian Assange, and, an early opponent of the Viet Nam War. Although not a fan of Donald Trump, Pilger once said that Hillary Clinton was 'far more dangerous than Trump.' Pilger was also a prolific author. His videos, along with much of his writings, etc. can be viewed for free by going here:

Whereas, in 2018, Mr. Assange was charged with one count under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) for alleged conspiracy to help a United States Army intelligence analyst access Defense Department computers without authorization;

Whereas the charge under the CFAA was despite the fact that said intelligence analyst already had access to the mentioned computer, that the purported breaching of the Defense Department computers was impossible, and that there was no proof Mr. Assange had any contact with said intelligence analyst;
