How can you feign anger over others’ attacks on a free press when you imprison Assange as punishment for his vital revelations about U.S. officials?

Continuing his world tour doling out righteous lectures to the world, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday proclaimed — in a sermon you have to hear to believe — that few things are more sacred in a democracy than “independent journalism.” ...

That the Biden administration is such a stalwart believer in the sanctity of independent journalism and is devoted to defending it wherever it is threatened would come as a great surprise to many, many people. Among them would be Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks and the person responsible for breaking more major stories about the actions of top U.S. officials than virtually all U.S. journalists employed in the corporate press combined.

Currently, Assange is sitting in a cell in the British high-security Belmarsh prison because the Biden administration is not only trying to extradite him to stand trial on espionage charges for having published documents embarrassing to the U.S. Government and the Democratic Party but also has appealed a British judge's January ruling rejecting that extradition request. The Biden administration is doing all of this, noted The New York Times, despite the fact that “human rights and civil liberties groups had asked the [administration] to abandon the effort to prosecute Mr. Assange, arguing that the case . . . could establish a precedent posing a grave threat to press freedoms” — press freedoms, exactly the value which Blinken just righteously spent the week celebrating and vowing to uphold. ...

It is hardly new for the U.S. to dole out lectures which the rest of the world recognizes as complete farces. In 2015, then-President Obama was prancing around India giving lectures on the importance of human rights, only to cut short his trip to fly to Saudi Arabia, where he met numerous top officials of the U.S. Government to pay homage to Saudi King Abdullah, their long-time close and highly repressive ally whose totalitarian regime Obama did so much to fortify.

This is one of Trump's failings as well. He should have pardoned both Assange and Snowden.

Every group is infiltrated, EVERY group is. Propagandists don't get paid well, and as a result, they're not very good at their job. The main purpose of propaganda isn't to fool smart people, it's designed to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all. People are told what to believe, but they are never told why they should think that.

I'm not a glowie, nor do I play one on television, but I have to say that this is one of the most enlightening insights on the purpose of propaganda that I've come across on Patnet.I guess the propagandists really do think we're stupid ostriches whose only job is to keep our heads in the sand.

Just beware that nobody is immune from propaganda, neither you or me.

PLAUSIBLE stuff is said all the time, that is false. There's a false dichotomy between the "left" and "right" as well. Don't think you're immune, nobody is. Right now the "conservatives" are being told that there will be investigations into the FIB and CIA and other trash criminal organizations for suppressing the 1st amendment. I'm telling you, IF there is any hearings at all, it will be sham.

Remember the Durham Report? Whatever fucking happened to that? We're being told that Kari Lake MIGHT get her day in court - no she won't. Again, at best, it will be a sham.

These are forms of propaganda as well.

I remember when I was expecting George W. Bush to actually have to deal with impeachment when it was clear the evidence for the phantom weapons of mass destruction program was revealed. Nope.

Same reason he didn't pardon Ross Ulbricht. They're all on the same side. From Trump, all the way back to Clinton, not a single president has done right by our patriots.

Would create too many political enemies. This was stupidity on his part, they were already enemies at the time and he wanted to be "friends". That will never happen.

https://slaynews.com/news/mexicos-president-humiliates-joe-biden-sides-with-donald-trump-why-not-allow-the-people-to-decide/

Mexico’s leftist President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has publicly humiliated Democrat President Joe Biden.

During a press conference, AMLO decried Biden over the Democrats’ efforts to indict President Donald Trump.

He said Biden can no longer lecture other countries about democracy if Trump is arrested.

“Right now, former President Trump is declaring that they are going to arrest him,” the Mexican leader said.

“If that were the case, it would be so that his name doesn’t appear on the ballot.

“I say this because I too have suffered from the fabrication of a crime when they didn’t want me to run.

“And this is completely anti-democratic.

“Why not allow the people to decide?”

He also called out Biden specifically, saying the United States cannot talk about human rights with Julian Assange detained, cartel violence with Biden bombing the Nord Stream pipeline, or democracy while arresting the leading presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Guess who is not talking about the Vulkan Files exposing Russian activities? Correct:

Wikileaks

This obscure organization which claims to support whistleblowers and even bears "leaks" in the name "suspiciously" omits the revelations which embarrass Putin-Russia. One might assume that this is exactly that kind of event which would have them all over the place, but it's not, and it is not even the first time.

In 2016 the so-called "Surkovleaks" dropped. That leak revealed that Russian paratroopers (VDV) were directly involved in the battles in Donbas back in 2014, proving that the Russian military was directly involved and dispelling any claims of any kind of rebellion there. Wikileaks didn't mention the Surkovleaks even once.

Little earlier in 2016 before the Surkovleaks the Panamapapers dropped. Wikileaks was in the beginning very giddy to report on the Panamapapers since it involved many political enemies of them (and Russia). They changed, however, the tune once Putin and his friends got into crosshairs. Wikileaks was then quick to call it an "attack by Soros" (see first screenshot). This dogwhistle Anti-Semite claim is widely used by right-wing operators around the world. It was clear that Wikileaks didn't want Russia to be involved and tried to deflect all scrutiny where Putin has accumulate wealth on foreign bank accounts.

There have been numerous cases where Wikileaks reacted with critical and deflective responses when it was about Russia. Each separate event might have been a coincidence but the sheer amount of following cases prove a system behind it which cannot be even explained with "selective bias". This went far beyond that.

I have called out Wikileaks for their practices and the result can be seen in the 2nd screenshot. Therefore, I have no problems when Assange is treated like a criminal, because he is a Russian spy.

Wikileaks is a FSB front. A fighter for democracy, transparency and truth would never selectively treat all those leaks in such a different manner or even attack leaks unfavorably for a specific party.

Those would have to be online. Can you give a link to them? I have found things that summarize what was (supposedly) found, but I need to be able to see the emails to verify. For this, it is relatively easy to do, because translation on text is now trivial.

This is all I could find:

https://static.rusi.org/201907_op_surkov_leaks_web_final.pdf

But it doesn't contain any emails.

Here's a question - why do you think OUR media hasn't reported on these?

WRT to Wikileaks, they have never covered anything that wasn't in English as far as I know. They are very good at authenticating information, this may be beyond their abilities.

My hypothesis is our "news" media is only interested exclusively in propaganda. They never will show you what real information looks like even if it helps the current narrative. NOBODY is reporting on the Surkovleaks leaks that I know of, and I mean any media, not just corporate garbage.

First, this has no connection to Assange as he is rotting in an English prison thanks to the United States. So I would think as a US citizen, your focus would be on the US. So why are you attempting to derail the thread into Russian conspiracy theories?

antiwar.com has done extensive work on the current fiasco in Ukraine, and their only angle is no war. When you post something from them supporting your claims, I'll remove theories from this reply.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican RINO - Senate Minority Leader - Mitch McConnell are condemning WSJ reporter's arrest in Russia as a "violation of press freedoms." Yes, the same press freedoms that do not exist in the US.

"Let there be no mistake: journalism is not a crime... We demand the baseless, fabricated charges against Mr. Gershkovich be dropped and he be immediately released and reiterate our condemnation of the Russian government’s continued attempts to intimidate, repress, and punish independent journalists and civil society voices."

If "journalism is not a crime" then why is Julian Assange, locked in a maximum security prison the last four years and why is the U.S. government trying to extradite him for the "crime of good journalism?"

No answer.

That would have been the right thing to do. I don’t think that Trump was part of the globalists plan. Nor is he completely anti globalist. But rather the situation is more like this: Trump is one of the greatest showmen of this generation. But while his sense of business and showmanship is excellent his sense of morality is way off. And while he is not bought and paid for by the globalists, he is influenced by them in many ways, including an unspoken fear of losing control of his image which he probably felt would have happened had he pardon what many Americans and others in the west view as a criminal. It’s sad people have that perception, and Assange is not a moral man either by the sound of it. But Wikileaks was not a crime. The Steele Dossier, used to weaponize the justice system, that was a crime.

In London, Brazil's Lula calls for efforts to free Assange and this in response to a question about Assange.

"It is an embarrassment that a journalist who denounced trickery by one state against another is arrested, condemned to die in jail and we do nothing to free him... We talk about freedom of expression; the guy is in prison because he denounced wrongdoing. And the press doesn't do anything in defense of this journalist. I can't understand it."

On World Press Freedom Day, Chris Hedges gave a talk at a rally calling for the immediate release of Julian Assange.

"The detention and persecution of Julian Assange eviscerates all pretense of the rule of law and the rights of a free press. The illegalities, embraced by the Ecuadorian, British, Swedish and U.S. governments are ominous.

They presage a world where the internal workings, abuses, corruption, lies and crimes, especially war crimes, carried out by corporate states and the global ruling elite, will be masked from the public.

They presage a world where those with the courage and integrity to expose the misuse of power will be hunted down, tortured, subjected to sham trials and given lifetime prison terms in solitary confinement.

They presage an Orwellian dystopia where news is replaced with propaganda, trivia and entertainment. The legal lynching of Julian, I fear, marks the official beginning of the corporate totalitarianism that will define our lives."

Biden has approved a $735 million weapons sale to Israel. Israel will be paying for the weapons using money from foreign aid given to them by America. According to experts, Israel needs these weapons so they can shoot down Hamas rockets that were given to them by Iran, who paid for them using money given to them by America.

"Yeah, it's all pretty straightforward," said one Middle East expert. "Not confusing in the least."

According to sources, Iran bought weapons technology with $1.8 billion in cash given to them by the Obama administration. They then provided those weapons to Hamas terrorists in Gaza in order to kill Jews.

Israel is responding with weapons systems purchased with American foreign aid dollars from the Trump administration. ...

Nah, let that FSB/KGB asset rot.

WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange declined to publish thousands of Russian government documents in 2016, according to a report Thursday.

The organization, which brands itself specializing in "censored or otherwise restricted official materials involving war, spying and corruption," declined Russian government data that would have amounted to thousands of pages.
...

WikiLeaks has been lauded for publishing troves of U.S. government information, ranging from diplomatic cables to apparent CIA cyber-weapons.

...

"They do not care about the causes of the people they claim to represent," he (Pompeo) said. "If they did, they would focus instead on autocratic regimes in this world that actually suppress free speech and dissent. Instead, they choose to exploit the legitimate secrets of democratic governments, which has — so far — proven to be a much safer approach than provoking a tyrant."
