U.S. cities that virtue signaled by defunding their police departments are seeing record crime levels, forcing many city leaders to rethink their basic levels of intelligence.

Here's what has happened in a few cities that voted to slash police budgets:

Homicide grew by 44% in New York, which had 1,531 shootings and 462 murders in 2020.
Homicides also increased 36% in L.A. to 350, leading the police chief to say "a decade of progress" has been erased.
Minneapolis, the center of the "Defund the Police" movement, saw a 46% increase in murders.
Oakland, California has seen a staggering 314% increase in homicides.
Portland, Oregon has seen murders triple.
Austin, Texas has had a 26% increase in aggravated assault reports.
Chicago saw a 65% increase in homicides from June 2020 to February 2021, despite arrests dropping 53%.
Philadelphia hit a 30-year-high with homicides in 2020, with 499 people murdered.
Even smaller cities like Louisville, Kentucky had a record high of 173 murders and is on track to surpass that this year.
The New York Times reported that many such cities are now expanding their police budgets to try to deal with these outcomes that absolutely no one could have seen coming.

In Manhattan it looks like they're going one further than defunding the police.

Looks like the justice system simply won't lock them up at all.

Whaddya think is going to happen?

Well, if people are smart in NYC, and I doubt they are, the citizens would start committing all sorts of crimes against the DA that are offenses that won't lead to incarceration.

No such thing, as ANY crimes against that DA would lead to incarceration. You can burn down a business, but don't you dare throw an apple core into the DA's yard.

I can’t imagine what it is like living in dumps like Detroit, Newark, St. Louis, Oakland, and other such hellholes.
Edit: I forgot Baltimore.

My belief is that reliable government law enforcement (police as well as contract law and upholding standards) lead to a much more productive society. First, people don't have to spend so much time and effort protecting themselves or their property. Second, people can make long-term plans for efficient production of needed things. For example, why would someone build a factory and hire employees — a multi-year endeavour — if they thought the employees or consumers or government would just steal everything. A society without some sort of law and order can't progress beyond hunter/gatherer techniques. A local strong-man or war-lord can act as law-and-order, getting you beyond hunter/gatherer, but the society won't have human ingenuity unlocked beyond what a dictatorship provides.

My Christmas present this year, a Mossberg 500. Defund away! Any criminals stupid enough to enter my home will now hear a 12 gauge cocking, and will possibly shit their pants before running away.

Train Robberies Cause Union Pacific, Shipping Companies to Consider Avoiding LA

Union Pacific (UP), the nation’s largest rail freight company, sent a letter to Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon stating that train robberies in his jurisdiction have increased by 356 percent from October 2020 to October 2021.

Robbery losses are so high that the company is considering ceasing traffic through the county.

FedEx and UPS are also trying to divert railroad shipping away from the area, the letter stated.

“We do not take this effort lightly, particularly during the supply chain crisis, as this drastic change to our operations will create significant impacts and strains throughout the local, state, and national supply chain systems,” the letter reads.

But slower shipping still beats shipping that gets stolen.

The Democrats are now the party of crime.

How about defund or fire racist cops, instead of defund police. Democratic think-tank is dumb, no long term thinking.

The article said UP owns and operates 3 or the 5 railyards in LA.

Maybe chyna is paying this democrat DA to go woke and make it unprofitable for UP to operate, in hopes they will sell and flee? Then chyna can buy it, and poof, the rail robberies suddenly stop.

Or more likely its just dems causing racial problems to ensure to future continuance of their racial political platform.

The twitter comments are funny because many dems are oblivious to why the brazen theft is happening. Many blame the security guard as being corrupt, or say it's not theft just someone walking out with the goods they purchased.

They don't realize their CA laws allow it, and DAs dismiss it.

As dumb as the “Defund the Police!” slogan sounded back in May 2020, try promoting it now when the murder rate in this country is nearing a 25-year high.

In February 2021, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced $120 million in cuts to her city’s police and sheriff’s department. Ten months later, she stood in front of a podium and declared that she was requesting more money from the city board of supervisors for the police. “And it comes to an end when are we more aggressive with law enforcement and less tolerant of all the bulls–t that has destroyed our city,” she said. While she did not admit that her own irresponsible policies had enabled said “bulls—t” to surge, her sudden about-face was admission enough.

The painful results of the Squad’s dreams coming true are hard for some politicians to ignore and rationalize. The senseless killings and organized robberies are bound to separate the men from the boys in the progressive movement. ...

These soft-on-crime policies were at the forefront of Dominique Luzuriaga’s mind as she delivered a eulogy for her husband, NYPD officer Jason Rivera, on Friday.

Officer Rivera died in the line of duty while responding to a 911 call in Harlem on January 21.

Through tears, his widow said, “This system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service. I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA. I hope he’s watching you speak through me right now.”

It was a powerful rebuke of Bragg and even more so of the anti-police attitude that the left has encouraged for years. ...

Democrats are learning the hard way that these “catchy slogans” (as Obama once called them) and radical movements don’t just inspire puff pieces in the Washington Post. They lead to real crime and real hurt. We are going to find out very quickly which liberals were merely going along for the radical ride until the reality became too much to bear. Some politicians are already reversing course.

We are also going to find out which progressives are the true believers and stay the course. That might be the scariest discovery of all.

Now, Rapaport is checking back in at his neighborhood Rite-Aid and it is completely bare and will be closing down, thanks to the Biden crime wave.

Back in my Rite-Aid and there's nothing to steal, because this Rite-Aid, like so many other Rite-Aids, is closing down because everybody stole everything.

And the workers here don't know if they're getting jobs.

He is so, so close to figuring it out.
He lives in New York City, he votes for leftists, and crime is skyrocketing...

You can do it, Michael!

2021 was all time record police deaths.

2022 has dozens already, not even into February, will probably beat it.

We tried this in the 60s and 70s, and it led to high crime. What stopped it was expanding concealed carry and minimum sentences. Bring back 3 strikes. End Low Bail for violent crime.

Earlier this month, he played a clip of Jen Psaki laughing at the “alternate universe” Fox News creates for its viewers.

“Jeanine Pirro [is] talking about ‘soft on crime consequences.’ I mean, what does that even mean, right?” Psaki said.

Tucker’s sarcasm was merciless:

“You’d have to be delusional to think crime was a problem in this country, unless you happened to be in Georgetown last night around 6:45 p.m. If you were there, you may have seen a man shot to death outside Georgetown Cupcake… not too far from where Jen Psaki lives. But did Jen Psaki acknowledge that happened? Of course she didn’t. Noticing the collapse of your civilization is racist.”

Crime could be increasing because criminals just aren't that worried about cops that bend the knee to the BLM or are scared of doing their duty to protect kids from an active shooter or in an area near where I am; scared of getting wet.

What do we have soy police.

Also, do the BART police do anything more than harass people with sandwiches?
