MS Windows has been spying on Americans

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal law enforcement agencies secretly seek the data of Microsoft customers thousands of times a year, according to congressional testimony Wednesday by a senior executive at the technology company.

Tom Burt, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for customer security and trust, told members of the House Judiciary Committee that federal law enforcement in recent years has been presenting the company with between 2,400 to 3,500 secrecy orders a year, or about seven to 10 a day.

“Most shocking is just how routine secrecy orders have become when law enforcement targets an American’s email, text messages or other sensitive data stored in the cloud,” said Burt, describing the widespread clandestine surveillance as a major shift from historical norms. ...

Burt said that while the revelation that federal prosecutors had sought data about journalists and political figures was shocking to many Americans, the scope of surveillance is much broader. He criticized prosecutors for reflexively seeking secrecy through boilerplate requests that “enable law enforcement to just simply assert a conclusion that a secrecy order is necessary.”

I'm sure this is true of Amazon services as well.

Just don't use them.

Starting in 2023, Windows 11 will require new laptops to have a front webcam

Actual photo from my front webcam on my laptop.

Gorilla Glue, then tapped it with a center punch to crack the lens.

Cloud is a marketing term for SES - Somebody Else's Server.

As for Front Cameras, Zuckfuck has had his laptop taped and did so years ago.

I noticed that some laptops come equipped with a little sliding door that covers the camera. There is also an aftermarket add-on sliding door that can be added to other laptops.

Microsoft decides it's a good idea to change settings on your computer to add a pride sticker onto the search bar during June, the month the degenerates have highlighted to push their agenda.

Oddly, Microsoft doesn't change the search bar sticker for other things such as a cross for Easter Sunday or during the Christmas season.

To remove stickers, right click on the search bar, select search, uncheck search highlights.

Or just never use Windows.

I have Windows 10 for what ever reason, MS decided computers built before a certain date wouldn't be able to update to 11.
Which is fine by me. I hate the look and feel of Windows 11, if I am forced to use something that looks like a Linux Distro, I'll just go Linux.
I think it's sinister that two newer laptops in my house, the kids use. Don't have as fast of a processer or as much memory as this 2017 Samsung I'm using. Yet they upgraded to 11 just fine. It makes me wonder what backdoors are built in the newer craptops that weren't built in 2017 models?

I don't have any Rainbows on the start menu this month, or I would be using a new install of Linux right now.

Oh yeah the first thing I did when MS upgraded my computer to Windows 10 for free. Was decrapify all of that stuff. Cortana, Search Bar, the Notification area, I disabled all of it.

Use Pop!OS Linux instead of Windows.

I want to stress the ease of use of Linux, and its supposed complexity is a myth.

In 1993, it was a BITCH to setup. I spent 3 days getting X11 (the graphic interface working) back then, but today, it's less than trivial - it's automatic. In 1993, when I went through that EFFORT, it was because I had a Unix workstation at home, and at my graphics lab, the same capability was $5,000. My computer cost $700 and I was making like $10 an hour. I got the equivalent of my graphics machine at home, for 1/5th the cost, and a LOT OF EFFORT.

99% of the population uses a computer to just connect to the Internet, and nothing else - MAYBE to watch some video files or listen to audio music. Linux trivially does that.

It's not the complex nerd system it used to be, and if you don't believe me, I'll fucking send you a USB stick - but I need a physical mail address so I can mail the USB stick. You will have to learn to change your computer to "boot from USB" - that might prove to be a problem - you have to fuck with your BIOS. Microsoft doesn't want to make it easy to change your OS, and they pay off companies to make certain it's not easy for you. You do have to modify settings in BIOS to boot from USB...

SURE you have a complex system underneath it, Windows does too - and SURE the shell gives you access to this complexity - Windows DOES NOT. You can't really fuck it up unless you know what you're doing - and you'll never bother with it anyhow. You'll open up Firefox, Chrome, or Brave, and that's about it.

People are afraid of Linux - because of a MARKETING campaign. It's just like any other operating system. In about 10 minutes, you'll be entirely comfortable with it, unless you want a DOS prompt. The Linux shell (tcsh, zsh, sh, bash, etc) is VERY different from DOS, and you have dozens of shells to chose from - not just one. BASH is pretty much the standard, but TCSH is pretty popular too. They're very similar, but not entirely identical, not that you're likely to notice it unless you're doing complex shit, and if you're doing complex shit, you shouldn't be doing it in the shell, you should be doing it in Perl or Python or something...

.. Which really are shells themselves. People don't realize that.

Post-it notes blocks mine out 100%. And most people would have them lying around. Plus you can take it off if you do need to do something remotely. Toss a new one on. In my case free because they're handed out at conferences on show floor or a golf outing. My wife has bins of work shit like this she gets. When we need some random trinket we look there first before going out and buying anything.

To Patrick's post, I just don't use MS for anything. I've avoided them like it's the vaccine. I'm fine with macOS. I've never had an issue with anything Mac. My only beef is when they start phasing out the older computers for macOS updates. It's kind of annoying because I feel like it's just recreating the wheel all the time and forces you to buy a new computer. I'll get a decade out of this iMac, maybe more. For what I paid it's $14/mo (no I didn't finance) and works 100% of the time.

Before the switch I went through maybe 3 machines running windows in the timeframe I've had this one. The 3 were cheaper combined, but the headache of setting them up and time was gay. Value your time. That doesn't even account for troubleshooting the bull shit going on before saying fuck it and getting a new one.
