Does anyone know of a list of medications that are off patent matched and the ailments they can be used for?

Just trying to keep this toward the top. Hopefully rin will answer.

No list but the internet usually remembers what was the previous usual prescription for anything.

Unfortunately, there's no single database which really connects all the dots. So from the fda site on off patent drugs, you'll need to find a way of looping through the names with drugs.com and wikipedia to know everything they can be used for.

Hey, this sounds like a good project for Patrick.

I'm very busy with a new genealogy site, but it does sound like something very useful for the public.

On the other hand, it would cost Big Pharma so much money that they would almost certainly prosecute any website that disseminates this very useful info.

They'd probably claim it's "practicing medicine" or something like that.

@rin

Am I stupid or could doing an internet search such as..."Astrozenica substitute" or "what drugs are used to treat X" give me what I'm looking for?

I ask instead of testing it out on my own because I so not know prescription to test searched with.

Would this solution work?

I just ran a test of "what drugs are used to treat diabetes" on google and then, duckduckgo

google put ucsf, mayo clinic, and webmd on top

In other words, your standard redirection towards the medical centers which know better.

duckduckgo, however, puts up

Ozempic vs Tresiba

Metformin vs Lantus

Levermir vs Novolog

so it's a start
