Sounds like a read. When science fiction writers have become prophets.

He wrote it after Roe vs. Wade, arguing via reductio ad absurdum, that defining an arbitrary line when human life begins is an immoral slippery slope. In the story, children as old as twelve could be killed because the standard in the future is that a human must understand basic logic and arithmetic. He says of this story:

EDIT: @Patrick, you should read some of Phillip K. Dick's short stories. He was depressed, addicted to amphetamines, and wrote many science fiction short stories for a penny a word in the 50's and 60's. Among them are the stories that were made into films such as Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, etc. The Library of America has a really nice hardcover box set of most of his novels at a reasonable price.

23-Year-Old College Swimmer Dies Suddenly - No Cause of Death Given

Ty Wells, a recent graduate of the University of Arizona and a member of the university’s swim team, died unexpectedly on Friday. He was 23.

The cause of his death has not been disclosed, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

“Several people close to the program [said] that rumors circulating that the death was caused by a motorcycle accident are untrue, and that the Arizona medical examiner is still working to determine the cause of death,” SwimSwam reported.

A 6-year-old girl has tragically died suddenly in Ohio, according to reports.

Anastasia Weaver passed away unexpectedly in the Emergency Room of Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman, Ohio, on January 25, at the age of 6.

The young child was surrounded by her family.

Anastasia’s mother, Jessica Day-Weaver, said that her husband, Andrew Weaver, found Anastasia unresponsive around 6 am on Wednesday when he got home.
