Dear Patnetters, please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2022, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only "America" in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.

Merry Christmas

The European Roots of Christmas And Our Path Through Post Modernity

One of the things I enjoy about looking into the Pagan origins of Christmas is seeing how many different variations of the legends, customs and practices exist across Northern Europe. Christmas is a time for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ. For me, it is a time to celebrate the entirety of my ancestry and the European people. In the mid 6th century AD the Catholic church declared Christmas the celebration of the birth of Christ. However, much of Europe was still not fully Christianized. In order for the people of Europe to accede to this, the Church had to accept that all of the Christmas celebrations were pagan.

So, Christmas for me is a comprehensive celebration of the entirety of the European people as both Christian and European pagan myth and symbolism are bound together. It is in this celebration that we can connect with our roots, our ancient and recent past and come together as one people. Christmas is distinctly European as a solstice celebration, for it is bound fast to the geography of Europe. It is a celebration of the people of the harsh northern climates; of long, dark, freezing winters. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on the lands and geography that our ancestors survived and cultivated to abundance with their, ingenuity, sacrifice, diligence, temperance, physical strength, endurance, social cohesion and supreme organizational skills and structures. In the dead of winter we celebrate our ability to survive and conquer the harshest elements of nature along with our ability to live in harmony with her.

While the sins of Europeans are those common to all people, the immense benefits they have brought to the whole world are truly unique.

I got a gasp at our Christmas neighbor get together yesterday in Tri Valley. Somebody asked me if I was still paddle board surfing and I said yes, and I got the special edition Obama MurderBoard. The hushing and recoiling was fun, but otherwise, the event was non-political. I tried not to go all Alex Jones on their asses.

I really am not into Christmas, I just wait for it to go away. I go to the parties because my wife makes me, but it is a good idea to keep up with the hoods once in a while.

I can't stand this time of year. Darkest day of the year today. WTF is so fun or traditional about it right now? The birth of a fictional character? Fake trees? Higher electric bill? Snow (for me)? Forced get togethers with people I don't like? The list goes on. Christmas can go fuck itself on baby Jesus' cradle. I don't need the fake flattery of buying someone a shitty gift. I buy what I want when I want it. I don't want shit from anyone.

AS well AS festivālu Saturnalia

"Saturnalia is an ancient Roman festival and holiday in honour of the god Saturn, held on 17 December of the Julian calendar and later expanded with festivities through to 23 December. The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public banquet"

... I had not heard of such a thing...

I'm not left or liberal. Or religious. Xmas is absolutely the worst time of the year. By every metric it can't be the best time of year. I don't care about fictional characters. Cold +1. Dark +1. Bad music +1. People you're forced to be around +however many there are. Anyone that says otherwise has just bought in the consumerization of a made up holiday. Enjoy.... ho ho ho. You got suckered.

Between thanksgiving and xmas it's literally the shittiest 30 days ever. It's not a debate. If you like it, you likely have AIDS. Enjoy the "season" whatever the fuck that means. I don't get it. I buy things I want and don't expect from another human. I see what I want, when I want and get it. If you like the "holidays" you're a common moron. And don't give me the fucking grinch label. The holidays are a joke.

Reminds me of the story of how my father-in-law used to pinch his toddler in church so he could take the crying kid outside and the FIL could have a cigarette.
