I propose we have a million comment party in June at some beer garden on the peninsula. Or maybe I'll sail over to Coyote point and you guys can bring lawn chairs and beer coolers to the dock.
We already got 4 o 5 regulars and I'm sure you could vet a couple more that are willing to travel for such a momentous occasion.
Who else would be interested in the Mega-comment party this summer?
I’d fly out. Not for this specifically. Family trip. I think I’m one of the babies on the site age wise. I’d do a lunch or dinner for sure though if the timing is right with anyone. I like beer so that’s a requirement.
I’ll be in San Diego late August 2023 for sure though unless some dumbass Covid variant comes out… oh wait. Long time out I know.
We’re likely building a house so vacation time is fucked. Jet setting days are coming to an end likely plus the kids are hitting the age where there is something everyday for them.
@WookieMan what date is good for you? Doesn't have to be right on the million comment date of course.
Not sure. We'll be in San Diego August 2023. Travel for me/us might be fucked this year. Doing the wife's 40th and I guess now my sister and mom are game to go to USVI around Xmas. Which is a fucking fortune that time of year. Already did Jamaica and Mexico this year so far. I lost my Southwest Companion pass, we added my nephew so travel expenses have jumped. And we want to build a house. Ugh. I'm disliking this year already.
My buddy actually just flew back from Hawaii today and had a layover in SF or LAX I believe. This is why I like the Caribbean and can deal with Chicago weather. I'm 3-4 hours from damn near anything I'm interested in including CA. He got to the airport at 5:30am... 6 hours. 3 hour layover. 4 hours to Chicago. ~1 hour drive from Chicago. If I ever do Hawaii it will be for 14 days, maybe more. He pounded edibles all morning I guess. He's a great dad and is home sick missing his two biological kids. We're kindred spirits. I'm high as a kite right now as well. If I was gay he'd be my guy personality wise. He's ugly as fuck though, not going to lie. Hairy greek. Again, I'm high.
I may sneak out there at some point solo. I like the freedom of traveling solo, especially with kids now. Who knows, maybe I could do a long weekend in May or early June. With points and no kids solo travel can be super cheap for me. Only travel game I haven't conquered is the rental car game. Besides the car or potentially eating out, I could do it for $100 for 2-3 nights.
Maybe we could guess who the FBI agent(s) are. Or maybe the Guv will take the opportunity to drone us en masse, or beam a DEW at us, or turn on a focused EMP 5G signal. The joints and cigarettes will light themselves, no need to re-warm the pizza.
@Onvacation Lately I really like hoppy beers. I went through a long red wine phase, but find red wine to be expensive and of inconsistent quality, even it is occasionally superb. And it tends to give a worse hangover than beer or white wine.
I also enjoy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Those are always almost always good in my experience.
I don't usually drink distilled things, but some whiskeys are great.

Have you ever had a Gewürztraminer or a Riesling? They are both sweet but high alcoholic white wines. They pair well with very spicy food. If you are eating something tremendously hot, they take the edge off. They work well with extremely spicy Indian and Mexican foods I find - although it's difficult to get those here - everything is Americanized and made more bland.
Well, I am no wine expert, but I was always taught that "dry" mean high alcoholic content, and "sweet" just meant high sugar, and there's no reason you can't have both.
I find the Rieslings and Gewurztraminer wines to be both. They pair very well with spicy food. I used to go to an Indian restaurant back in college and would have that with jalapeno naan bread - we went there often enough so we could order off menu and basically challenge the cooks to make something unique. We'd eat whatever they made and give them feedback. My first experience with fusion cooking.
We ate mistakes too of course. It wasn't THEIR fault we asked for something crazy. I used to do that a little here.
Anyhow those two wines cool down the spiciness. Sometimes they would make some CRAZY HOT dish. "Is it too hot?", my face would be red, my nose running, and I was hiccuping "no", I'd gasp. Not the hottest thing I've ever had, I once had a habanero pizza - under each slice of pizza was 1/4 habanero. That was the hottest thing I've ever had. My roomate in college introduced me to hot food, the first time he tried to cook with habanero, he started a pan fire, and basically maced the entire house.
I'd be very happy if @WookieMan can make it, but I know it's a big distance and an expense.
WookieMan, let me know if you prefer some other day than Saturday April 30th.
Expense wouldn't be the issue. Kids have soccer at 9am and 11am that day. Also MIL turns 60 the next day, and even though I despise her, we'll probably do something. Also SIL is coming back from Austria a day or two prior and I have to run to O'hare with the trailer to get her back with all her crap she needs being over there. BIL takes care of her, but he's very passive and doesn't man up and figure a way to get shit home, so I just do it.
Usually I'd have the flexibility, but we're also hitting the wife's travel season as well. So I'm riding solo with 3 kids from now until about the end of May. Lol, not sure why I'm sharing my calendar. Besides a weekend up in Door County, our schedule would make most people freak out. Wife is doing the door county 1/2 marathon (dox'd, whatever) and I'm doing the 5k with the kids in May. I don't run... 1st world problems, but I'm a bit worried about burn out, so a CA trip would be rough with this short of notice.
I promise I'll make an attempt at something in the future. San Diego next year for sure. I need an excuse for solo travel and I have no intentions of turning my wife onto Patnet so it's not an easy sell. I've said personal shit that I wouldn't want her to see unless I'm dead. No offense to the site.
September 1, 2 & 3 this year my favorite band (Umphrey's Mcgee) is running up from San Diego, LA and Oakland in that order. So that could be an option for a quick 2-3 night trip out there. April-June 99% won't happen for me to get out there though. Also not joking when I say we're legit building a house. So I got a pile of shit on my plate. So I may go MIA posting here at times. So I'm not hiding mell ;)

The comment_id is much larger 1835791 because many test and spam comments have been deleted over time. I also used to automatically add houses for sale and for rent from craigslist when I had my own service for finding underpriced houses from Craigslist data. Craigslist didn't like that, so I deleted those some years ago.
I found the millionth comment like this in the database:
select comment_id from comments order by comment_date limit 1000000;
Lol, I thought of that, but I don't think it's practical to figure out which one is the millionth without direct database access. And if you have direct database access, then I don't have control over the site anymore, lol.
Congrats! Just got back from TX and flying/airport is now maskless. It was good to freely cough again and watch the mask holes squirm! Thanks Florida judge, and a wommyn of all genders - let freedom ring!

Well. I'm a drunk!
So much for my guess... sites sitting at 992,220. Close but no cigar.
I'm all for a party and a bet! I should be excluded from the bet because I have database access.
I'll turn off the counter when we get within 100 comments or so.
There is that beer garden we met at twice in San Mateo. I'll try to think of alternate places as well.
I’ll be in San Diego late August 2023 for sure though unless some dumbass Covid variant comes out… oh wait. Long time out I know.

I like beer too. And wine.
Hopefully that doesn't give the game away too much. Looks like it will be somewhere around tax day.
So maybe the party should be Sat April 16th or Sunday April 17th. Any opinions?
May is better.

Rewarm pizza? From you I was expecting something like "warm the dead bodies for necrophilists."
Patrick says
Looks like post million will be somewhere in between, closer to tax day than early May.
Patrick says
Can't make it on Easter.
@Patrick What's your favorite drink?
I'm all for May, June works too, but it's far away from the million post and close to summer holidays.

There are dry rieslings, BTW.
Let's do it in May and wookie has to drag his ass out to CA and get liquored up on the flight once again in prep of the celebration

@mell What's a good date? I'm assuming a Saturday or Sunday.
How about at Fieldwork Beer Garden in San Mateo again?
14/15 or 28/29, or 7/8 or 4/30-5/1
No objections but wookie is hiding

Congratulations Patrick!
And to rwgfy, In the best of humor: gfy
The ad hominems haven't been the same without him.
OK, let's say 1:15 pm to 4 pm at on Saturday April 30th at Fieldwork Brewing in San Mateo, 3030 South Delaware Street, San Mateo, CA 94403.
https://fieldworkbrewing.com/san-mateo/?source=patrick.net
I picked 1:15pm because the northbound Caltrain gets into Hillsdale station at 1:08pm on weekends. Fieldwork is pretty close to the Hillsdale station.
