The sad truth is that a huge majority of Jews are only secular Jews by birth, not practicing, and solidly on the left, which seems strange. I can remember an interview in the Dallas Morning News in the early 90's with Stanley Marcus, proprietor of Neiman-Marcus, when he was in his early 90's, saying he was content to go to his grave not believing in God. Jews are a couple of things.

There is the religion, but there is also ethnicity. For the most part, Jewish religion overlaps with Jewish ethnicity, but there is a small flow of converts in either direction, and always has been.

The largest subgroup is the European (Ashkenazi) Jews, who are very inbred. I'm only 1/4 ethnically Jewish myself, but almost all of my matches on 23andme.com are with Jews I've never heard of. The reason is that pretty much all Ashkenazi Jews are the equivalent of 3rd cousins with each other. If you're related to any of them, you're related to all of them.

But there are smaller groups, also very inbred in themselves. Sephardic Jews from Spain, Mizrahi Jews from the MidEast, and so on, even some in India and a now-extinct group in China.

These different Jewish ethnic sub-groups are quite different from each other in appearance, but all share a significant amount of male Middle Eastern Y-chromosomes. (Except for the Ethiopian Jews, I think.) Male Jewish merchants would historically move to where the opportunities were, then take local women as wives because there were no Jewish women, and then become almost entirely endogamous in the following generations.

The formula of a mercantile people being endogamous works very well financially, but alienates the majority culture. Most wealthy and exclusive minorities seems to get massacred eventually.
