And what has Russia won at this stage? Russia lost major naval bases and assets in Crimea and Ukraine's grain shipments through the Black Sea are at record levels. Russia was already quasi-occupying much of the Donbass before the war and now have over 300,000 dead and wounded without much to show for it other than destroyed gas pipelines to Western Europe, couple brand new NATO members on their borders and the EU increasing their military budgets.

There is no quantifiable way to claim Russia is better off economically, militarily or strategically today than before they decided to invade Ukraine.

This is true, but the same is happening to Russians. It really makes no sense for either side. As I've said this could have been handled so much differently. Russia could have just bought the land. All this does is make Russia look like a paper tiger. A supposed military super power cannot even control a space the size of New Jersey?

Chicago had more murders over the same time period we occupied Iraq and Afghanistan combined for US losses. Russia has lost substantially more in such a short time. Ukraine is toast for sure, but I think this drags on for a decade. Maybe longer to be honest. At least as long as Putin is alive.
