It's not "because Russian" it's because there is no actual evidence Gagarin went into space in the first place. In order for space trip to be official the rules of FAI require that the pilot lands inside the landing capsule, but the capsule landed empty and Gagarin supposedly exited it at several thousand feet altitude and landed separately. At least this is what they said when caught lying about him initially landing with the craft. The whole story stinks of typical Russian bullshit.
