#nuclearweaponslaunh There is this urban legend that Joe Biden or Vladimir Putin awaken in a bad mood. Biden orders a nuclear strike on Iran. Putin orders a tactical nuclear strike on Ukraine.
Fortunately for all of us, the reality is something vastly different. CBS News went in-depth and showed how the US system for launching nuclear weapons works. There are three large leather bags with the launch codes in them (nicknamed "The Football.") President Biden always has one of these leather bags nearby. Vice-President Kamala Harris has one of these leather bags nearby. A third undisclosed cabinet member is known as "the designated survivor." He or she has one of the black leather bags.
If the bag is opened, it is really a fancy computer system showing nuclear warheads available, target options, and the estimated number of people who will die if this option is followed. Decisions are made by one of these three people. Nuclear weapons are not automatically fired.
The firing instructions go to a very elite committee of 4-star generals and admirals. I watched interviews with two of these men on the CBS News program 60 Minutes. They were most capable and independent-minded. Their first job is to make sure that the order issued by one of the three people is a lawful order. If an unlawful order to launch nuclear weapons is carried out, the people on this committee face court-martial and a life sentence in prison for many counts of murder.
Once the order is determined to be lawful, these senior officers carry out the weapons firing procedures.
Thanks to a very professional group of scholars and experts using a website that I read daily (Quora Digest), I have a good idea of how the Russian system works for authorizing the firing of nuclear weapons. Putin and his inner circle have no black leather bags like their US counterparts have.
An elite group of senior military officers has all the launch codes, warhead dispositions, etc. They also have a binder with very strict instructions on when nuclear weapons can be used. One part of the Russian warfighting doctrine is that nuclear weapons can be used if conventional forces cannot accomplish a military objective. There is a big additional caveat in the system. It must be established that the survival of the Russian state is at risk before such drastic weapons can be used. If Putin gives a launch order, this group of senior officers must decide if it is a lawful order. If the order is determined to be lawful, they launch the weapons.
I know a lot of you are thinking that "Putin could game the system" and force these senior officers to carry out an unlawful launch order. The people writing in Quora Digest did not believe that this was possible.

It's all bullshit. There's no way a senile incompetent criminal like Joe Biden determines if we go to nuclear war. The people that control and run this country aren't so fucking stupid, and certainly aren't so powerless, that they would permit the mere president to go to nuclear war.

If he had a "nuclear football" it would be best represented as this:

That's what Biden has, that's what Trump had, that's what Obama, Bush Jr, and Clinton had. Bush Sr... maybe he had the real thing. He was the head of the CIA after all, and the son of a fucking legitimate Nazi.

It's scary that either Putin or Biden can make things worse; they both need to be "sanctioned" like in the Eiger Sanction.

I really hate my liberal friends more every day; they contributed to this bullshit we are living in now.

The dead Biden voters aren't really to blame; they're not conscious so I don't blame them.

I've experienced this myself. I was HUGELY against the Iraq War and found like minded people that hated Bush as much as I did for lying us into that war. All I thought about was all the people being killed and how the US was acting like a bunch of murderous psychopath bullies. Sanctions were nothing more than a way to keep on fucking with Iraq until they couldn't put up with it any more in my opinion.

But they supported the bombing of Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. They didn't even know about Somalia and Yemen. Whatever the government did under Obama, it was somehow justified.

And that's when I realized that the vast majority of my friends had no principles. They were partisan whores. I was in my 30's then, and I was shocked to see people thinking the way I did back in my 20's - that one side was good the other side bad. These were (presumably) adults.

The good of this though, is there's SOME principled people, but they are very rare. I only know 3 - well 3 well. I'm certain there's many more, but within my group of 15 years ago, it's a tiny minority, and they don't want to make waves.

The whole concept of “nuclear codes” is ridiculous! This description proves they are political fiction, devised to make us think the President has some immense unchecked destructive power. I mean, who designed this system? The President gets daily updates to the codes in the form of a 3x5 card so he can prove his identity to some military commander? Really? Are there other codes for conventional weapons as well? Drone attacks? Why not?

That’s where the “nuclear codes” come in. They aren’t codes to actually launch missiles, but to allow the president to prove he is authorized to order a launch.

The codes are a list of letters on essentially a 3×5 card, called the “biscuit,” which are updated daily. To prove he is the president, he must be able to provide the right code from the list on the card. The card may be carried in the football, although some presidents have chosen to carry it with them.

Once the president has provided the proper codes for the day, no one has the authority to stop the launch process.

Don't worry Jill has them wrote on a Post-It note on Joe's Jitterbug Phone. She has a Marxist staffer yell them out to her as she writes them down.

When you say things like this, does it actually mean that you are living in a state of fear? Or are you just being dramatic?

This fantasy code thing is just a pr for the world to believe that president is so powerful. The reality is far different.

Yup - president is a puppet. The whole brewhaha over Trump is that Trump was actually threatening to exercise the power that the executive office possesses. Now that we have a compliant puppet again, it doesn't matter if he's corrupt, mentally incompetent, a racist, a rapist - none of it matters so long as he's compliant and takes orders.
