I had a professor who was famous for some thing, so they released him to lecture even though it was torture to listen to him. He had Parkinson's so he shook, and his mind wasn't all there. One time, he walked into an empty closet by the side of the lectern stage and closed he door at the end of the lecture. Everybody started laughing, because he stayed in there a while after realizing what he had done, thinking he was leaving the hall. He stayed in there because he didn't want to admit he did something weird. He eventually emerged shamefaced and walked out the regular way.

I agree. At that age I don't think I'd be any different than the class, but at this age, I wouldn't have laughed, and I may have even pulled him out of the closet and told the class to shut up. After all, he just confused a door and then hid in embarrassment. That's not "crazy", that's a mistake from a failure of short term memory to latch into long term memory. He was hitting the point where he could no longer form long term memory, the rest of him was entirely intact.

I've dealt with senility myself now. These people are confused at times, but they are still a fountain of knowledge and should be respected.

I'd have sympathy for Biden, but he was never a fountain of knowledge. In my viewpoint, the man has entirely wasted his life by being an abject criminal and his only knowledge is how to lie convincingly. I don't have any sympathy for a lifelong criminal that was never prosecuted.
