When I was County Judge Executive in Lewis County Kentucky, I was responsible for signing the check that paid for every phone landline and cellphone billed to the county.

At first it seemed impossible to ferret out the waste, fraud, and abuse for these phone plans.

How many phones were taxpayers paying for that were defunct? How many were former county employees who were no longer employed but had been able to keep their phone and mooch off the taxpayer? Was any of it fraudulent or inaccurate billing by the service provider?

But then I came up with an idea… I told every county department (Sheriff, Clerk, Road Crew, Jail, etc.) to give me a list of their phones matched to their county employees or offices.

In one month, I would DEACTIVATE EVERY PHONE that wasn’t on one of these lists.

A month went by and only about 80% complied with the directive to list their phones. I gave them one more month and issued a serious warning that their phones would be turned off at the end of the next month.

Finally, I directed the phone company to deactivate all phones that weren’t accounted for. Guess what?

The jailer called me up and said the finger print machine wouldn’t send finger prints to the state police anymore. Ha! That was the only legitimate phone line that I deactivated. We quickly got it reactivated.

I ended up saving our county thousands of dollars on the phone bill, much to the chagrin of the phone company and a few moochers who no longer had free phone plans. I think most of the savings came from phones that just weren’t in service but had been left on the bill.

Why do I tell this story? Because what Elon is doing by asking federal employees to list five things they did in a week is brilliant. Requiring any kind of an affirmative response from a worker will prove whether that worker even exists and can be reached. Don’t forget, the Inspector General for Afghanistan found out we were paying millions for soldiers and police in Afghanistan who didn’t even exist (ghost employees). There’s no telling what Elon’s plan will uncover. We will find some employees can’t use email or aren’t even literate enough to write five things. So everyone take a chill pill and write down your five things to let us know you exist and you can read email and you aren’t completely insubordinate. Then we can clean the roster.

“I think Trump is at fault here,” Massie told The Dispatch. “I watched almost all of his speech. I felt like it was inevitable.”

The Kentucky representative also said Trump, among others, misled his supporters.

The ensuing riot resulted in the deaths of five people, including a woman who was shot and a Capitol Police officer who was injured while on duty.

Massie, who was publicly against the efforts to contest the 2020 election results, also said some of his colleagues believed Trump's claims while others didn't, but they feared the ramifications of not backing the president.

“There were a whole host of my colleagues who were just frankly terrified of the base that Trump had misled. It was much easier to go along than to explain to them that Trump was misleading them,” Massie told The Dispatch.

EDIT: It was from an elected GOP guy in Kentucky who was pro-Massie. It was called "The Penny" or something like that. Can't find it now.

I can't believe in just 8 weeks Congress and Trump had enough time to craft a return to budgets, cut waste that DOGE didn't find yet, etc.

The 6 month continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached is an insult to Americans’ intelligence.

The CR doesn’t cut spending, and the shiny object attached to it will be dropped like a hot potato before passage.

Here's the trillion dollar question:

How much does the latest kick-the-can-down-the-road CR increase spending?

I can't seem to find that number, but one site says every CR typically increases federal spending by 5%.

Here's a problem:

DOGE can id spending for recession. However, DOGE has a lot more departments to review. They probably won't be able to dive into everything by September, but they certainly need more than the few weeks they've had so far.

To permanently remove it, it's gotta be in a spending bill. Federal Judges are going to howl no matter what, that's a given. The cases involving recessions the federal judges are trying to stop are almost certainly going to SCOTUS.

However, a spending bill or budget is going to be THE Congressional Battle of the this Session.

There are a ton of Republicans in swing or mild "R" districts or States where cutting is going to hurt and hurt bad,

The budget is probably going to be the "Summer Slog". But we certainly can't have this battle right now, or Trump will get bogged down fighting in the Raputitsa Swamp Mire while he's got the momentum going right now and every week is making sweeping advances.

So bypass the Pripyet Marshes of Budget until the dry summer, but keep advancing around it towards Vilnius on the road to Moscow to maximize the initiative of the current advance.

I think Massie and the Dems would LOVE for a halt Trump on a range of issues. For Massie, that includes both slowing tariff and the border enforcement. The builders and Koch brothers that fund his campaigns want the imports and the cheap labor and as a lolbertarian he doesn't understand business lost to outsourcing, with the same infrastructure, drains revenue from a smaller tax base. The tariff offsets that AND encourages domestic production, broadening the tax base and making it easier to keep taxes low.

Another big issue with spending is funding the aforementioned Judges, possibly getting rid of the retarded DC Circuit entirely and spreading those cases randomly over other circuits. This is the age of Zoom and PDF, so distance really isn't a consideration.

That adds 1% to our ~$37T budget.

BUT, Doge has found just over $100B in waste in 2 months, or about $50B/month.

The waste has to be identified to be permanently cut. If the Budget negotiations begin in June, perhaps $200B in waste may be found. And that waste is a PERMANENT cut.

Over 4 years, that is $800B. So the benefit of delaying the budget to June is a net savings of $470B. And those savings are permanent.

That's not including completely axing the Dept of Ed, PBS, etc.

Why couldn't the CR spend at least slightly less than the previous one if it's spending slightly more?

Just moving in the right direction (less spending) would be epic, but somehow these CRs never do that.

* At least one Legal picture ID that has verified that and any citizenship/valid visa status upon issuance to get a job
* Takes far less time to complete than a W2 or ordering the #3 Chow Mein special from China Moon.

I literally did this for "Nationally Famous Mutual Fund company based in Boston" for a Summer as a college job. I could literally check two dozen people in half an hour by phone, and you had to call back every 3 checks, after waiting a few minutes for a Federal Employee to answer the hotline, and spell out each name completely letter-by-letter. You'd not be surprised how many Rosa Rodriguez born in 1979, a cafeteria applicant, were not gelling with an SNN in the name of Elmer Van Horne, born 1929, died 1975 in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin.

A better explanation to me is Massie's donors in the Construction Industry and Koch Brothers (who have LONG been opposed to E-Verify) hate it.
