Hawaii Senate Dem Majority Leader Gets 3 Years in Prison for Bribery

Former Senate Majority Leader J. Kalani English, 55, pleaded guilty to honest services wire fraud in February, admitting he accepted bribes from a Hawaii business owner in exchange for shaping legislation that would benefit a company involved in publicly financed cesspool conversion projects...

English “peddled the power and influence of his position as a Hawaii State Senator and Majority Leader to enrich himself and betray the trust bestowed upon him by those he was elected to serve,” U.S. prosecutors said in a sentencing memo urging the judge to send him to prison for three-and-a-half years.

The sentence, a little more than three years, must send a “stern and lasting message” that corruption of elected officials will be punished, the memo said. ...

Choy is a prolific donor, as are his immediate family members and business associates. Choy, his family members, and his employees from various companies have donated more than $356,000 to political campaigns since 2014, according to campaign finance data. Of that, Choy has contributed more than $160,000 to the elections and reelections of numerous Democrats.

Choy himself has donated to 55 campaigns — including 29 sitting lawmakers — since 2014. Money has gone to former Gov. Neil Abercrombie and current Gov. David Ige. He has most recently contributed to former Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s campaign for governor, and to Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s campaign.

"Stern and lasting message" my ass. Only life in prison will do. Singapore is a much better country than the US in this way.

as soon as you allow politicians to determine what is bought and sold, the first thing bought and sold will be politicians. ...

there is no way to make a state with the power to direct and demand commerce uncorrupt or incorruptible.

it will always be cheaper to buy politicians than to compete in the marketplace.

it will always be more predictable to engage in legal plunder than to guess at future trends. ...

the pursuit of self-interest is fantastically beneficial when commerce is voluntary and pareto optimality is assured by the universal right to say “no” but becomes desperately dangerous when commerce is compelled or proscribed.

in a free market, corporations compete to best serve their customers because they are constrained by consumer sovereignty and a need to induce commerce by offering value for money.

in a state driven market, corporations compete to capture the politicians and regulators who then, in turn, apply coercive force, subsidy, and stricture upon a market to force unattractive transactions upon a people.

and the adverse selection process is near perfect: after all there is no need to coerce people into buying best of breed offerings.

you can never be free in such a system. the incentives are too perverse. they twist the beneficial game of competition to be of best service to the baneful one of competing to capture the greatest compulsory coercion.

they call it safety, common good, collective need, or “justice” but really it’s all just force applied to separate you from your agency and property. ...

“look, even the clothing makers support this safety standard!” is not an endorsement, it’s a pretext to put every small competitor out of business by adding $30k in testing costs to each and every SKU as though silk screening a firetruck instead of a ducky on the same cotton onesie renders it some vast new potential threat to toddlers. ...

the same power that forces some vaccines while stymying others and opposes disease treatment is the power that shutters powerplants and refineries, pushes expensive and unreliable generation and prevents the adoption of nuclear. it’s the power that pays huge subsidies to semiconductor manufacturers and that protects “US employment making tires” with tariffs that cost the US consumer $800,000 per job. it’s the power that uses “safety regs” to make you buy new car seats for the kids every 2 years and makes it illegal for children to sell lemonade. ...

all these “regulations” come right from the industry or the unions because the industry and the unions are the government and the government is the industry and the unions.

it’s one big revolving door full of 10,000 anita dunns and scott gottliebs and randi weingartens and al gores.

and you cannot stop it. there is no law, no oversight, no “better people this time” that will even slow it down so long as these incentives remain in place.

and so those incentives must be eliminated. it’s the only way.

we must run gato’s law in reverse:

if you wish to get politics and coercive practice out of commerce, you must take away the ability of politicians to dictate human interaction. ...

letting the government decide what is safe is just another way to let them decide what is bought and sold. letting the government decide who is allowed to practice law or medicine or braid hair is just another way to create oligopolistic guild systems.

Horrifying Thai study finds evidence of heart damage in 2.33% of vaccinated school-aged participants, authors conclude: "mRNA vaccination ... should be recommended for all adolescents"

I’m late to this disturbing study of 301 Thai adolescents aged 13 to 18, who were monitored for cardiac symptoms following Dose 2 of Pfizer. Nearly a third reported effects of some kind, and 2.33% of the male participants exhibited biomarkers indicating damaged heart muscle. ...

Those are terrible, terrible numbers – orders of magnitude above what we’d expect in this demographic, which faces essentially no risk from Corona infection.

The MSM and the Democrats are shrilly yelling that the Inflation Reduction Act will lower the price of medications by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices with the pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Written in the Act it is for only a handful of drugs.

In reality, since this is supposed to start in 2026, it isn't ever going to happen as I am sure this provision will be done away with sometime in the next 4 years.

The 87000 new IRS members are real though.
14   Misc   2022 Aug 18, 10:25pm

Once the government starts giving away "free" benefits, it is really hard to reign them in.

As an example, when Obamacare was enacted the price tag was supposed to be revenue neutral. The extra capital gains taxes would pay for the program we were told. Even though the initial costs would be higher than the taxes raised, a large portion of the subsidies would be dropped in 2023 making the program at no new cost for the government.

Well, the Democrats just passes the Inflation Reduction Act. This extended the Obamacare subsidies along with a host of additional government spending. This new spending is supposed to be revenue neutral because they are raising taxes to pay for it. The spending initially will be higher than the taxes raised, but the subsidies and additional spending will drop off after a period of time.

Since the Obamacare Act has proven itself not to be revenue neutral, it really should be dis-allowed as it did not follow the law pertaining to the budget.

Does anyone think for a moment that the spending in the Inflation Reduction Act will ever stop???????

Looks like Hunter was extremely qualified to be a board member of Amtrak. He rode the trains. Yep, that's it

Don't ask how much he got paid for this, but I guess his appointment was fine as it was reviewed beforehand by a senate committee.

You know, Amtrak would be a lot nicer if they got some first class cars from Europe. I have traveled in a roomette before, but they are from the early 1970s. They are comfortable, but a bit outdated and cramped. They could have been designed quite a bit better.

They also have terrible marketing. Somebody that has never traveled by train before will be wondering what the layout of a roomette is, you'd think that would be on the Amtrak site, instead you just get some pictures where you can't really tell how things fit.

Nope, less than 100 were indited for the Covid outbreak (I am sure they were responsible). I am guessing that the 100s of thousands were for just general corruption. I am sure this is just for those who were unable to privately pay the fee they were assessed.

https://elamerican.com/judges-rule-dojs-secret-memo-that-shot-down-claims-trump-obstructed-justice-during-mueller-probe-must-be-made-public-2/

A U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled on Friday that the Department of Justice must turn over an Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) memo that was sent to former Attorney General William Barr indicating the position that former President Donald Trump did not ‘obstruct justice’ in his response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian collusion claims.

The Justice Department’s court-ordered public release of the OLC memo would further dispel accusations that Donald Trump violated any federal laws during his political campaign or in response to the federal investigation of Russiagate.

The legal victory for public transparency in the Russiagate probe was announced on Friday by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which is party to the appeal in U.S. District Court.

The false accusations against Trump are pure corruption, an abuse of government power.

Yeah, I do think something is up. I think the number is BS.

Look, it's not sign of virtue that the US NEVER sends a politician to jail no matter what they do. Not defending China, but we have a president OPENLY accepting bribes.

Corruption in China is really anti-state rebellion. The penalties for getting caught are high. Likely most charges are made up, to keep family members in line with State-issued Socialist policies.

Paul Pelosi Pleads Guilty to One DUI Charge – Avoids Jail – Gets Hit with Three Years Probation

Must be nice to have Pelosi Privilege

Paul Pelosi on Tuesday pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence.

Pelosi will avoid jail time.

Pelosi was hit with 3 years probation after drunkenly crashing into a Jeep in late May. ...

Mr. Pelosi also handed the arresting officers an “11-99 Foundation” card along with his ID to show he supports police officers (bribe?).

Pelosi had red, watery eyes, was “unsteady on his feet” and “he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.”

“Pelosi allegedly injured the other driver “while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and a drug and under their combined influence,” the first count in the two-charge complaint reads.” Fox News reported.

Advertisement - story continues below

According to the report, Pelosi pulled out onto S-29 to cross it, ignoring a stop sign, and was struck by Jesus V. Lopez, who was driving a 2014 Jeep. Lopez was reportedly traveling northbound on the state road.

The Jeep sustained “major collision damage.”
28   Onvacation   2022 Aug 23, 3:06pm

The guy Pelosi hit hit the jackpot. I'm sure his jeep was paid for plus enough cash to shut up.

P. Pelosi got the typical sentence assuming he was a first time offender.

If you are convicted of a felony DUI causing injury, you will face up to three years in county jail and up to $5,000 in court fines. Your driving privilege may be suspended for up to three years.

Nancy and Paul Pelosi are trading large — with a wealth of hypocrisy
https://nypost.com/2022/07/23/nancy-and-paul-pelosi-are-trading-large-with-a-wealth-of-hypocrisy/

Maybe Paul Pelosi knows a thing or two about stock trading. Or maybe he’s just a savant, like Hillary Clinton, who years ago credited her reading of The Wall Street Journal with being able to make big bucks trading esoteric cattle futures.

One problem with giving Paul Pelosi the benefit of the doubt is that enough of his winners involve companies that appear to have been benefiting from legislation that his wife, as the powerful lefty house speaker, has a hand in.

Here is where the corruption lie, not in dodging a DUI.

Reps accused of receiving $10m bribe from Bill Gates to pass Bill, Speaker kicks

The Coalition of United Political Parties has alleged that lawmakers in the House of Representatives were offered $10 million for the speedy passage of the Vaccination Bill by the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates.

CUPP in a statement issued late on Monday said it was in possession of intelligence report that the leadership of House is determined to pass the compulsory vaccine bill without subjecting it to the traditions of legislative proceedings. ...

CUPP said: “Opposition Coalition (CUPP) has intercepted very credible intelligence and hereby alerts Nigerians of plans by the leadership of the House of Representatives led by Femi Gbajabiamila to forcefully and without adherence to the rules of lawmaking to pass the Control of Infectious Diseases Bill 2020 otherwise known as the Compulsory Vaccination Bill which is proposing a compulsory vaccination of all Nigerians even when the vaccines have not been discovered.

They mean "approved", but the point holds. Looks like Bill Gates is literally bribing Nigerian lawmakers.

Can't watch a show without seeing ciggies lit up with insouciant nonchalance and everybody sloshing down a glass of wine or a drink as soon as they walk in the door.

The only thing you have to sell to alcoholics and addicts is the first shot/hit. After that, the addiction will sell all the cases of booze/cartons/baggies etc.you can manage to produce. They well know the vulnerabilities of the addicted brain to fake glamours of use.

Cannabis use is just so funny and amusing. Cannabis may have its medical and therapeutic uses, as I have seen, but really, most people just use it to get stoned.

Some black guys installed a new washer and dryer in our house, reeked of dope in the morning, they still managed to do the job. Blacks we have been gifted with through all the welfare air drops at the Safeway store often reek of weed just walking around the store. Maybe it calms them down, but do they really need the extra judgment impairment?

https://slaynews.com/news/joe-hunter-biden-deal-sell-americas-natural-gas-drilling-assets-china-documents-show/

A Republican U.S. congressman has obtained bombshell documents that reportedly show that Democrat President Joe Biden and his son Hunter have been cutting a deal to sell America’s natural gas reserves and drilling assets to Communist China.

The smoking gun documents were acquired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), who shared the information with renowned investigative reporter John Solomon.

According to Comer, he also has two whistleblowers who are willing to testify under oath before Congress to confirm that the allegations in the documents are legitimate.

Through the Bidens’ deal, the sale would allow China to take control of America’s natural gas industry.

The documents show Hunter was working with Chinese Communist Party-linked operatives to get keys to an office in Washington D.C. for himself, Jim Biden, Joe Biden, and First Lady Jill Biden.

Comer says his two new whistleblowers worked with Hunter Biden and are ready to expose it all when the Republicans take control of Congress.

Why wait? That makes me suspect it isn't real.

I don't ever want to read or hear "news about forthcoming news" because that's invariably bullshit.

Whistleblower: Joe Biden Was ‘Chairman’ of Family Business, Expected to ‘Make Billions’ in China

Hunter Biden’s former business partner has blown the whistle to reveal that Joe Biden was the “chairman” of his family business, despite previous denials from the Democrat president.

In a bombshell new interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, Tony Bobulinski reveals that Joe Biden and his family members expected to make billions of dollars through shady Chinese Communist Party-linked deals in China.

Bobulinski told Carlson that Joe Biden was the “chairman” and “figurehead” of Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.
