Weekends are packed when I've been in them. In the midwest, at least Chicagoland, it's really the only sporting good store.

It's also a seasonal business. They make bank leading up to Xmas. The margin on things like golf clubs and expensive sporting equipment/clothing is insane. You think a Northface raincoat costs anymore than $20-30 to make, yet they sell for $100-120. It's a low volume, high margin business. Fishing is another category. Kayaks. The list goes on.

It's risky though when the economy starts tanking if people can't afford the shit. But we're in a weird spot where domestic travel and sporting/outdoor goods should be in huge demand. We'll see. I think a lot of people are doing local things. We're going to be camping a lot more this year and not flying. Mainly because of my nephew living with us and airfare is getting rough. Still going out to Bozman, MT and down to Mexico this year. Thinking of Turks and Caicos over a long MLK weekend Jan '23. God damn this year is flying.

I also wonder if fathers can tap into the murder bounty by taking their baby mama on a blood money trip sponsored by Dick and Dicks shoppers?

Academy is much better anyway. They are creeping up the Mississippi, so they should be in the Lakes Region in a few years.

Good Texas company.

Thank Goodness I can use them and not Bolshevik Dick

Airfare and a few days off for an Abortion...

... is cheaper than Maternity Leave.

True, and a barren woman makes a better employee. One of my coworkers put in her two weeks notice literally the day she came back from maternity leave. I’m guessing this is fairly common.

Competition is good. I've never heard of Academy though. The only chain store here in IL that competes is Sierra. They got David Spade doing their commercials, which is weird, as he doesn't really have a sporting goods/outdoor vibe. Maybe it's just for his whiny voice and recognizable?

I still can't comprehend how a sporting goods store named themselves Dicks. Maybe that was part of the marketing strategy though?
