Diesel has more taxes, especially in CA.
I'm no where near an environmentalist, but diesel really is dirty. Sucks in cold weather as well.
The One World Government will decide who gets to eat from Bill Gates Gardens.
dicaprio should be able to burn 300+ gallons of diesel per day on his yacht.

Historically the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel were not much different.

Also, gas prices lower as the summer driving season dies down. But the trucking industry never stops so the demand is always there, keeping prices up.
The US has refineries capable of producing diesel. The Europeans were getting about 1 million barrels per day from Russia (that amount sorta declined even with the shenanigans being pulled with Russian exports). Latin AMerica also doesn't have the refinery capabilities to fully supply their needs.
The US upped the exports to these 2 areas because the foreigners were willing to pay a higher price, thus, the US has less supply. Therefore, our price goes up.

Yes, diesel engines are dirty, but they're more efficient, and not any more polluting.
I am not sure if gasoline or diesel are taxed heavily in Illinois to explain the price difference.

My dad worked in the emissions testing part of Chrysler for a while, and told me that diesel particles are just the right size to get stuck in human alveoli at the bottom of the lungs and cause cancer. He was no environmentalist, so I'm pretty sure it's true.
It is surprising to me all the environmentalists are not discussing natural gas as fuel for cars.
