NATO isn't a fighting force, it's a money pit. Europe doesn't host American bases because they feel they need protection, they do it because it adds money into their economy.

One reason that the Belarussian army didn't cross the border before is because they are even less motivated than Russians, and are likely to defect. Plus revolts might start in Belarus. Plus they risk invasion by the vastly superior Polish army.
