There was likely a higher probability of debris hitting a boat in the Atlantic versus a home in Montana. This is the retardation of our current government. I was IN Montana. If it fell on the house I stayed in so be it. Why the fuck would they let it float across the country. Correct, and they know that as well. It seems the balloon was let go so it could finish its job, then shot down over the sea to destroy the evidence. It could have been shot down over Montana with a gun round instead of a missile, then likely recovered after a deflated fall. That would have allowed recovery of the payload.

They should have detected that balloon very easily besides using Pentagon satellites and FAA radar.

The Pentagon could have the Aegis radar system on the Arleigh Burke and the Ticonderoga class.

The Arleigh Burke class has ballistic missile defense capabilities so it can track missiles.

You know how the "news" media and the US government lie about EVERYTHING? They're lying again. IF they wanted to recover this balloon, they could have just shoot it with a few bullets and let it slowly deflate and slowly fall to the ground as it equalized buoyancy, instead they used a sidewinder missile to blow it to dust. 3 of them in fact, since they are heat seeking missiles and weather balloons don't produce too much of that. That cost around $1,000,000 in weaponry alone.
