I was visiting Amsterdam in '93. When it was time to get out of town, there was a transit strike. Among tens of thousands of other people, I had to walk through the transit tunnel to GTFO of the city. Fun times - at least my feet were still in good shape back then.

Their 68 generation - the one that hated DeGaulle and protested and let in all the North Africans and were down with all the Leftoidism and had all the great jobs in their peak adult years 70s and 80s and push paper - their Yuppies - voted in Macron because he promised not to meddle in their pensions, by dramatically raising the age for people under 50 to get their pensions.

Meanwhile, the working people are put in satellite city 'suburbs' of massive towers and every new tax has been levied on them in the name of the environment. They cannot afford to live closer to work and wages have been stagnant for 20 years as the taxes and cost of living, esp. housing because of migrants and the jet set pied a tierre crowd taking over every bit of housing in large cities, esp. Paris, from the lower quality to the best quality.

I think cab drivers, ambulance drivers, delivery drivers, auto mechanics, etc have seen their costs in tolls, gas fees, distance to home, mass transit fares, etc. go up dramatically in the 90s and never stop, while their compensation which is regulated by Government, has not moved at all. The Paper Pushing Middle to High level admins and bureaucrats have been getting regular pay increases and doing great, the Working Class has had wage freezes and ever-increasing costs of living. Since the global crash of 2008, they got less paid vacation and other benefits but they also raised the retirement age to just a few years bellow ours.
Now they are coming in line with the rest of the world and they are losing their shit over it.
