I had a fascinating discussion with my wife today. I think we tentatively agreed that the difference between men and women is that men largely control their bodies, while women are controlled by their bodies (periods, "unwanted" pregnancies, etc.) and that might be what leads to lots of women having eating disorders or cutting, etc. It's a way for women to feel in control of themselves.

In a larger sense, this is perhaps why women can be happy raising children and grandchildren. This is the time they can be in control. They can't control themselves, but they can control their children.
