Fuses, drive-in movies speakers, window crank, IBM Selectric typewriter ball. They were changeable to have different fonts.

I just posted this one on FB with the following text:

Now young people, gather around for another story from Back In The Day.

This here is how we changed fonts in Google Docs or Microsoft Word. We had to buy these and mail them in each time.

Took about a week. Like we had to send film in and wait for our pictures.

So the smarter of us figured out we could use this as an excuse to extend our deadlines for term papers in school:

"Sorry teacher. But I am still waiting for Microsoft to update my Word font!"

True story!

The above is in error.
That's a ball for the IBM Selectric typewriter.

Dot matrix printer from 1983. It had a switch to print in italics. But the whole document was printed in italics!

we used to call them CURB FEELERS. The lowriders and the joggers were still using those in the 70s...BTW, does anyone remember when people would have 2 rubber straps dangling from the chassis and touching the road...something about static electricity?

Lightning McQueen saw these in radiator springs.

But here’s one for everyone...

True story: I hid under one these babies during the Loma Prieta Earthquake. I, a librarian and a little girl. All hell was breaking loose. Encyclopedia Brittanicas were flying all over the place.

All three of us figured out that the card catalogs were the safest places to dive under.

I had a student job there as a page. My shift started at 5pm. I was just starting to take a cart of magazines to shelve when the quake hit at 5:07pm.

Wouldn't want to scrape those whitewalls.

Encyclopedia Brittanicas

I remember my old set from the 60s. Someone intentionally broke up the volumes so it said something interesting on the spine. My favorite:

I got all 20 and I'm not even that old. The curb scraper thing is new to me. Just don't hit the damn curb. Not that hard.

I've never had a problem with any car I've owned with electric windows. 7 cars deep and no issues. My first car did have manual windows though. Kind of a pain if I'm being lazy, which I am. Former smoker so just one window was not enough to get the smell out, so reaching over to the passenger side was a bitch. Thank god I quit that habit and got a newer car.

anyone remember those fake wide whitewalls that stuck to the tires? Also when they started making tires with white lettering and then red lettering and/or a red stripe?

Oh, that is a bit tame for a Ceffer joke. We would expect something like "I bet you wondered why he paid so much for your dirty underwear."

I remember a Britannica volume "Chicago to Death".

The Chicago article started with (to the best of my memory) "While many people grow up suspecting that government is corrupt, children in Chicago grow up knowing it to be a fact."

I've got 137,135 unread emails... lol. 455 unread text. I think 11 voicemails. Fuck technology. I only talk and communicate with people I have in my contacts. I hate the phone.

Inspired from the new big mac thread

"Two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun."
